About The Position

The Aquatics Director is responsible for the overall operation of the Aquatics Department, ensuring the park operates safely and efficiently. This role focuses on maintaining a clean and appealing facility, ensuring all team members are well-trained and provide courteous service, and meeting or exceeding departmental budgetary goals. The position requires strong leadership to develop and implement operating procedures, safety programs, and departmental goals in collaboration with the General Manager.

  • Management experience required
  • Minimum of 3+ years of industry (aquatic attraction) experience required

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the safe and efficient operation of all aquatic attractions, including lifeguard operations, slide dispatch, first aid response, and guest safety.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce departmental policies, standard operating procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Lead and supervise Aquatics Managers, Supervisors, and Lead Lifeguards, ensuring clear accountability.
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, and retain qualified aquatic leadership and frontline staff.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained based on attendance, operating conditions, and attraction requirements.
  • Manage departmental scheduling, rotations, attendance, labor utilization, and payroll processes.
  • Ensure all aquatic team members complete required certifications and training before assignment.
  • Oversee various departmental training programs, including lifeguard certification, slide-dispatch, and leadership training.
  • Plan and conduct monthly lifeguard in-service training.
  • Maintain compliance with StarGuard ELITE requirements, company standards, regulations, and safety practices.
  • Conduct site inspections and operational audits to ensure standards for safety, courtesy, cleanliness, and efficiency are met.
  • Oversee observational audits of lifeguards and slide attendants, providing coaching and corrective action.
  • Monitor attraction readiness, opening/closing procedures, safety equipment, and emergency supplies.
  • Address and resolve unsafe conditions immediately, including removing attractions from service if necessary.
  • Communicate repair and maintenance needs to the appropriate departments and General Manager.
  • Develop, maintain, and review emergency action plans.
  • Provide leadership during emergencies and unusual situations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of all required records, including incident reports and training documentation.
  • Review incidents, rescues, guest concerns, and operational trends to identify risks and implement corrective measures.
  • Keep the General Manager and Human Resources informed of significant employee relations issues.
  • Lead aquatic team members positively and professionally, establishing clear expectations and accountability.
  • Maintain consistent communication with department leadership, team members, and guests.
  • Participate in department-head meetings and collaborate with other departments.
  • Serve as a park Duty Manager as required.
  • Enforce all company policies and procedures, protect company assets, and maintain professional appearance and conduct.
  • Assist other departments and perform additional duties as needed.
