About The Position

At the YMCA, you'll do more than supervise a pool—you'll lead a team, protect lives, and help create meaningful experiences for every member who enters our aquatic center. If you're an experienced lifeguard who enjoys leading others and creating a safe, welcoming environment, this is your opportunity to make an even greater impact. As a YMCA Aquatics Coordinator, you'll help oversee daily aquatic operations, support and develop lifeguards, and ensure every member and guest enjoys a safe, positive experience in and around the pool. This is a year-round, part-time position offering 20–30 hours per week, with Saturday morning availability required.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Minimum of two years of lifeguarding or aquatic leadership experience.
  • Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification.
  • Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certifications.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Dependable, professional, and committed to maintaining a safe environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, schedule, and support lifeguard staff.
  • Work lifeguard shifts as needed based on seasonal and operational demands.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor lifeguards to maintain the highest safety standards.
  • Assist with pool inspections, maintenance schedules, and water quality documentation.
  • Coordinate aquatic events, including swim meets, pool parties, and special events.
  • Ensure all opening and closing procedures are completed.
  • Respond professionally to member questions and concerns.
  • Enforce YMCA aquatic policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Assist the Aquatics Director with staff training and in-service sessions.
  • Maintain communication with the Aquatics Director regarding daily operations and facility needs.
  • Perform additional duties to support the success of the aquatics department.
  • Maintain all required certifications throughout employment.
  • Follow and enforce all YMCA aquatic safety standards and policies.
  • Attend required in-service trainings and staff meetings.
  • Support abuse prevention policies by maintaining professional boundaries and following YMCA procedures.
  • Dress appropriately for lifeguarding duties and represent the YMCA professionally.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, members, and the Aquatics Director.
