Requirements

  • Must be at least 15 years old.
  • Positive, energetic, and comfortable leading groups.
  • Passion for working with children, families, and people of all ages.
  • Dependable, patient, and encouraging.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to the YMCA's mission and core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • Current YMCA or American Red Cross certifications in CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration, or the ability to obtain required certifications through YMCA-provided training before employment.
  • Willingness to attend required trainings and staff meetings.
  • Ability to arrive prepared and ready to teach each scheduled lesson.

Responsibilities

  • Teach swim lessons to children and adults of all ages and skill levels.
  • Create a safe, fun, and encouraging learning environment during every class.
  • Instruct participants using YMCA swim lesson curriculum and teaching techniques.
  • Ensure all pool and safety guidelines are followed at all times.
  • Build positive relationships with swimmers and their families.
  • Prepare lesson equipment before class and store it properly afterward.
  • Encourage participants, celebrate progress, and help swimmers achieve their goals.
  • Represent the YMCA's mission and core values through every interaction.
  • Deliver safe, engaging, and high-quality swim lessons.
  • Maintain a positive and encouraging learning environment.
  • Follow all YMCA aquatic safety standards and emergency procedures.
  • Arrive on time and prepared for every class.
  • Communicate professionally with participants, parents, and fellow staff.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe pool environment.
