About The Position

The Aquatics Coordinator provides leadership to all areas of the Aquatic Program and coordinates and supervises the programs under the principles of YMCA Character Development, caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. This role directly affects the overall Aquatic Department, ensuring a positive and safe atmosphere for each participant when performed correctly.

Requirements

  • Must be certified in PR/CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid (Training provided by the Y if needed).
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Show technical skills in swimming instruction, lifeguarding, and supervision of others.
  • One year of previous supervisory experience is required.
  • Must have personal characteristics consistent with the Character Development Values.
  • Must be able to communicate with a variety of ages.
  • Must possess YMCA Lifeguard Certification (or from another nationally recognized certifying organization).
  • Should also possess Instructor certifications in swimming.
  • Will require CPO certification within three months of employment.
  • Will receive additional YMCA aquatic certifications as trainings become available.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to all areas of the Aquatic Program.
  • Coordinate and supervise programs under the principles of YMCA Character Development.
  • Assist the Aquatic Director in achieving program goals.
  • Assume supervision of the aquatic department in the absence of the Aquatic Director.
  • Ensure the safety of all participants by being mentally alert to dangerous situations.
  • Perform rescues using aquatic equipment.
  • Demonstrate skills.
  • Perform daily maintenance and chemical balance of the pool.
  • Assist Aquatics Director in hiring, training, and supervision of aquatics staff.
  • Assist Aquatics Director with work schedules for all staff, lifeguards, and swim instructors.
  • Promote safety within the aquatics department, assuring equipment and facility are maintained and staff are assigned.
  • Assist in marketing of all aquatic programs.
  • Attend staff meetings and Aquatic Team meetings.
  • Maintain quality control and recommend purchases to the Aquatic Director.
  • Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors, and volunteers.
