About The Position

The City and County of Denver's Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking an adept and accomplished recreation professional to join their aquatics team. This role involves creating, coordinating, and planning a variety of aquatic programs, classes, and activities while managing the day-to-day operations of a municipal indoor pool. The Aquatics Coordinator will partner with other coordinators to deliver swimming lessons, water fitness classes, and lifeguard in-services, modeling behaviors and requirements for lifeguards. The position may also involve lifeguard rotation, teaching swimming lessons, or instructing aqua fitness classes as needed, and will support the overall recreation center team and operations.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
• Three (3) years of work experience instructing in an organized aquatic program involving the monitoring of pool equipment, pool chemicals and pool operations.
• Requires a Lifeguard Training Certification, CPR and AED Certifications for Professional Rescuers, and First Aid Certification at the time of application.
• Technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Digiquatics (or other staff scheduling platforms)
• Experience delivering American Red Cross learning materials and classes
• Experience performing lead work/supervisory duties over aquatics staff

Nice To Haves

• American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification, preferred at time of application
• Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certifications, preferred at time of application
• Experience scheduling and staffing pools
• Experience facilitating aquatics programming
• Knowledge of successful recruitment and retention strategies for lifeguards
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, including experience hiring, working with, and mentoring youth
• Excellent organizational skills

Responsibilities

• Create, implement, and lead Aquatics programs, including swimming lessons and special events
• Assist with the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and coaching of part time staff members including Lifeguards and Swim Lesson Instructors
• Oversee staff scheduling for Aquatics part time staff at your facility
• Evaluate the success of programs and provide feedback to the Aquatics Core Team
• Conduct regular staff training on emergency procedures
• Deliver equitable, professional, and prompt customer service to community members and facility users
• Create and foster partnerships with community leaders, neighborhood organizations, local schools, and other community partners to design programs that fit their unique needs and promote employment opportunities
• Attend regular team meetings and collaborate with other Aquatics Coordinators, Recreation Supervisors, and other city agencies
• Attend community events and serve as a Denver Parks and Recreation ambassador to the community
• Perform basic regular maintenance and repair of pool equipment in partnership with Pool Maintenance Technicians
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested
