About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to coordinate and schedule programs in the Smyrna Park system. Primary duties and responsibilities include supervising and participating in the operation of all pool and splash pad operations, training, and directing the work and performance of assigned staff (mostly pool and splash pad staff). Other duties can include implementation and coordination of events and programs as needed to support the Parks Department. Reports to the Recreation Program Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license.
  • Must have a valid CPR and first aid certification or be willing to obtain it within 30 days of beginning employment.
  • Must have a valid AED certification or be willing to obtain it within 30 days of beginning employment.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Three (3) years of experience in aquatics or a pool environment with a high school diploma
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and knowledge of public pool operations is preferred.
  • LGI (Lifeguard Instructor Certification), WSI (Water Safety Instructor), and AFO (Aquatic Facility Operator) certifications preferred or willing to obtain within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and maintains day-to-day operations at the swimming pool and splash pad.
  • Assigns, trains, and supervises assigned pool and splash pad staff.
  • Prepares weekly schedules for pool and splash pad staff.
  • Performs day-to-day operations and maintenance of the town pool.
  • Performs routine chemical checks of outdoor pool and splash pad.
  • Oversees pumps and chemical feeders for pool and splash pad operations.
  • Assists in ordering supplies, materials, and other commodities.
  • Performs general house cleaning of facilities as needed.
  • May give CPR or first aid in emergency situations until qualified medical personnel arrives.
  • Performs various administrative jobs such as creating records, reports, correspondence, memorandums, etc. using word processing, spreadsheets, graphs, and PowerPoint.
  • Participates in the development of departmental fee structures as it relates to the athletics office and aquatic operations.
  • Participates in the planning, organizing, and scheduling of camps, programs, special projects, special events, school events, and other events as they relate to the park system.
  • Plans and coordinates special projects and/or events.
  • Participates in the development of the Smyrna Parks athletics and events office.
  • Attends a variety of meetings relative to the programs and events in the park system.
  • Participates in the creation and release of departmental brochures, articles, reports, and other media-related materials.
  • Promotes the development of new programs and activities that will enhance the recreation offered by the Town of Smyrna.
  • Assists the Recreation Program Supervisor in the communication of daily and upcoming events to fellow parks employees, other town departments, and the community.
  • May be required to facilitate meetings and make presentations to groups as it relates to the Parks department.
  • Assists in coordination & supervision of seasonal ice skating rink.
  • Makes periodic reports and presentations.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Recreation Program Supervisor.
  • Provides coverage in absence of other personnel.

  • Assists co-workers when necessary.
  • Assists in any special events or programs.
