About The Position

The Water Aerobics Instructor will be responsible for the delivery of safe, effective and physically appropriate group water exercise classes, under the direction of the Aquatics Coordinator/Program Director and in accordance with the policies of the YMCA of Southwest Florida.

Requirements

Must be 17 years of age or older.
Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements as well as meet the Association’s policies on background screening.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Refrain from diagnosing injuries, offering medical advice, and dispensing or endorsing any and all commercial health products especially nutritional supplements, vitamins, performance enhancing substances, and pain relievers.
CPR for the Rescue Professional/ First Aid/AED Certifications required.
Lifeguard Certification required.
Certification from the Arthritis Association of America/AE and FA required.
Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols training required.

Responsibilities

Arrive promptly for shift and report to work at the scheduled time.
Follow the format of the class type and description to be taught.
Ensure classes are safe and within industry standards and guidelines.
Use music suitable for a family setting.
Become familiar with class participants, including their names, health concerns, and physical limitations.
Maintain constant supervision of participants during class.
Direct all pool maintenance concerns to Aquatics Director immediately.
Ensure all participants wear appropriate swim attire and footwear.
Make sure all equipment is put away correctly following your shift.
Find your own substitutes if you are not working your scheduled shift and communicate the substitute to the supervisor in a timely manner.
Attend regularly scheduled, mandatory staff meetings.
Utilize time clock and monitor timesheet. Bring any corrections to supervisor within a timely manner.
Participate in YMCA-sponsored special events and activities when possible.
Provide a positive role model for members and guests.
Uphold all staff safety requirements including cleaning protocols throughout the day, as required by my department.
Perform other duties as assigned.
