The APRN provides clinical care within the scope of their Nurse Practitioner license. Advanced nursing practice activities are performed based on post-basic specialized education and experience. Under Connecticut law, for the first three years after licensure and at least 2,000 hours of practice, nurse practitioners must diagnose and treat alterations in health status in collaboration with a physician. The written collaborative agreement must address consultation and referral, patient coverage when the APRN is absent, review of patient outcomes, disclosure of the relationship to patients, and prescribing of Schedule II and III drugs. The APRN provides direct patient care as part of a clinical team and works with colleagues to plan and evaluate care. The role may focus on medical specialties appropriate to the APRN’s skills and board certifications, and includes community service, professional development, and participation in organizational meetings. The position requires a master’s degree in nursing and completion of an accredited certified nurse practitioner program, a current APRN license, and CPR certification. Experience as a nurse practitioner in a community health center or primary care setting, or in an emergency department or urgent care, is required. Family APRN training with pediatric experience is preferred; other subspecialty training and experience may also be considered. The salary range is $118,000 to $140,000.
