About The Position

The APRN/PA will extend the patient care and administrative services for the UAMS Women and Infants Service Line (WISL) physicians in the outpatient settings. APRN/PA will be expected to provide comprehensive health assessments, determine diagnoses, implement treatment plans, perform procedures, and prescribe medicines and treatments. The APRN/PA will also manage health issues for patients, independently or in collaboration with the designated physicians. The APRN/PA will work autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage patient's health care problems; and will serve as a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate. The APRN/PA will also coordinate the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consults, assuring that care is timely and appropriate.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree
  • Two (2) years nursing experience
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas; APRN/CPN License, or PA with State Medical Board.
  • Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Must be able to operate all typical nursing equipment essential to performing the job (i.e., scales, procedure equipment, needles, blood pressure equipment, and EKG machines).
  • Must have normal communication sensory requirement.
  • Ability to comply with CDC Universal Precautions when indicated.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred nursing experience in endocrine or women’s health.
  • Prescriptive authority and DEA license must be obtained after hire.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care to women, including routine assessments, screenings, and management of complications.
  • Collaborates with maternal-fetal medicine specialists to care for patients with conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and placental abnormalities.
  • Supports laboring patients, assist with deliveries, and respond to obstetric emergencies in the labor and delivery unit.
  • Conducts newborn assessments, manage common neonatal conditions, and collaborate with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) team for more complex cases.
  • Provides education on breastfeeding, safe sleep practices, infant care, and postpartum mental health to families.
  • Engages in telehealth consultations to extend care to underserved populations, ensuring access to specialized services.
  • Collaborates with obstetricians, pediatricians, lactation consultants, and social workers to deliver holistic care to mothers and infants.
  • Engages in quality assurance and improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes and care delivery processes.
  • Delivers care through mobile health units and community outreach programs, ensuring access to services for women in rural areas.
  • Contributes to clinical research and provide education to medical students, residents, and other healthcare professionals.
  • May perform other duties assigned.
