About The Position

This apprenticeship program focuses on the assembly of solar devices and batteries. The role involves following defined operation sheets and instructions to set up, adjust, and operate automatic solar cell soldering or brazing machines. Responsibilities include preparing and attaching cell assemblies to substrates, attaching cover filters, soldering electrical components, and performing heat cycles and electrical continuity checks. Rework of similar operations is also part of the role. IAM Hourly represented employees at specific Lockheed Martin facilities are eligible to apply.

Requirements

Ability to use the tools, materials, equipment required to perform the work described.
Ability to use basic arithmetic and instructional material.
IAM Hourly represented employees who currently work at the main (Sunnyvale/Palo Alto) unit, Santa Cruz, Vandenburg Air Force Base or Eastern Range facilities must apply to open requisitions on Brass Ring to be considered for the position.

Nice To Haves

Basic use of assembly tools such as soldering irons, crimpers, or strippers.
Exposure or some experience with electronics assembly.
Exposure or some experience with cable or harness assembly.
Certification for all processes used in the Solar Array Facility may be required.

Responsibilities

Set-up, adjust and operate automatic solar cell soldering or brazing machines.
Prepare and attach cell assemblies to rigid or flexible substrates per blueprint and manufacturing process specifications.
Prepare and attach various solar cell cover filters on solar modules.
Solder electrical components or place in ovens or under lights for specified times in heat cycle.
Perform in process heat soak and electrical continuity checks.
Perform rework wherein the operations are essentially the same as those required for work described herein.
