About The Position

The Apprenticeship Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, promoting, and supporting apprenticeship and skilled trades development initiatives across the Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation (TIC) Group of Companies and the broader Tłı̨chǫ region. The position plays a key role in advancing workforce capacity by supporting apprentices, designated trainers, employers, and community partners throughout the apprenticeship journey. Working closely with stakeholders, industry partners, educational institutions, and community organizations, the Apprenticeship Coordinator helps create pathways for Tłı̨chǫ citizens to enter, progress through, and complete apprenticeship programs, while increasing the participation of Tłı̨chǫ businesses in training and developing skilled tradespeople. The position contributes directly to TIC's commitment to growing Tłı̨chǫ communities, economies, and citizens through employment, training, and long-term career development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in workforce development, apprenticeship coordination, training administration, human resources, employment services, education, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship systems, skilled trades pathways, and workforce development programs.
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation abilities.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to mentor, coach, and support individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database or record management systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Commitment to supporting Tłı̨chǫ citizens and advancing workforce capacity within the region.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Tłı̨chǫ region.
  • Valid Class 5 license required

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary education, training, or coursework in Human Resources Management, Adult Education or Training, Career Development, Apprenticeship and Trades Training, Business Administration, Community Development, Indigenous Leadership or Workforce Development, or Project Coordination or Project Management.
  • Experience working with apprenticeship systems, skilled trades programs, workforce development initiatives, or employment and training programs.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations, or capacity-building programs.
  • Experience coordinating projects, events, training programs, or community initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Apprenticeship, Trade and Occupation Certification (ATOC) processes and requirements.
  • The ability to speak/understand the Tlicho language.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support apprenticeship initiatives across the TIC Group of Companies.
  • Serve as the primary contact for apprentices, designated trainers, supervisors, and stakeholders regarding apprenticeship matters.
  • Assist with apprentice registrations, sponsorship requirements, training documentation, and apprenticeship progression.
  • Track apprentice progress, technical training requirements, work hours, work experience and completion milestones.
  • Maintain apprenticeship records, reports, and databases.
  • Monitor and support completion of apprenticeship logbooks and blue books.
  • Provide ongoing guidance, coaching, and support to apprentices throughout their apprenticeship journey.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with apprentices both in the workplace and while attending technical training.
  • Assist apprentices in navigating training requirements, funding opportunities, travel and accommodation arrangements, and school registration processes.
  • Support apprentices in preparing for technical training through readiness workshops and preparatory learning sessions.
  • Support apprentices in preparing for attending Foundations training where applicable.
  • Support implementation of apprenticeship readiness and carpenter readiness training programs.
  • Assist in planning and coordination for experienced Tłı̨chǫ tradespeople who wish to challenge certification or Red Seal examinations.
  • Coordinate annual Trades Exploration Program in partnership with Aurora College and other stakeholders.
  • Recruit and support participants, including coordinating applications, interviews, travel, accommodations, personal protective equipment (PPE), and program logistics.
  • Monitor participant attendance, engagement, and success throughout the program.
  • Coordinate graduation events, certificates, and participant recognition activities.
  • Arrange and oversee industry work placements for program participants.
  • Conduct regular follow-ups with trainees and employers during work placements.
  • Support participants in transitioning into apprenticeship opportunities and long-term employment.
  • Promote apprenticeship opportunities and benefits to Tłı̨chǫ businesses and regional employers.
  • Assist Tłı̨chǫ employers with apprentice recruitment, sponsorship requirements, and registration processes.
  • Educate Tłı̨chǫ employers regarding apprenticeship obligations, learning objectives, and best practices for apprentice development.
  • Support Tłı̨chǫ employers in establishing effective workplace training and mentorship environments.
  • Facilitate collaboration between Tłı̨chǫ employers, apprentices, and training providers to address challenges and support apprentice success.
  • Support experienced tradespeople in becoming Designated Trainers.
  • Promote a "Tłı̨chǫ training Tłı̨chǫ" approach wherever possible.
  • Provide resources, guidance, and training opportunities to strengthen coaching, mentoring, and supervisory skills.
  • Work with Designated Trainers and Journeypersons to ensure apprentices are developing required competencies prior to attending technical training.
  • Coordinate technical training preparation and review sessions.
  • Collaborate with the Tłı̨chǫ Government Apprenticeship Coordinator, Career Services staff, educational institutions, employers, and training providers.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with industry partners and community stakeholders.
  • Assist Tłı̨chǫ citizens employed with non-TIC organizations who are participating in apprenticeship programs.
  • Help identify and secure apprenticeship placements and career opportunities for Tłı̨chǫ citizens.
  • Coordinate communications activities that promote apprenticeship successes and career opportunities.
  • Gather success stories, participant profiles, and program outcomes for internal and external communications.
  • Prepare reports, statistics, and program updates for management and funding partners.
  • Monitor apprenticeship participation, completion rates, and workforce development outcomes.
  • Participate in capacity development initiatives and workforce planning activities.
  • Support other Human Resources and Capacity Development projects as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the position.
