The goal of the Apprentice program is to provide intensive on-the-job training to one highly motivated Shareholder in Anchorage, Alaska. The Communications Apprentice is an entry-level position designed to provide hands-on experience and professional development in corporate communications. Working closely with the Communications Specialist and other departments, the Communications Apprentice will assist with developing written, visual, and digital communications that support the Afognak brand and keep Shareholders, employees, and other audiences informed and engaged. The apprentice will learn how to manage social media pages and be able to manage the pages on their own by the end of the apprenticeship. The ideal candidate is a creative, organized, and motivated individual who is interested in developing skills in communications, graphic design, social media management, photography, video production, and content development. The apprentice will be given opportunities to take ownership of assigned projects while receiving guidance, feedback, and mentorship from the Communication Specialist and Communications Director. The apprentice is expected to work full-time (40 hours a week). The length of employment will be determined on a case-by-case basis to accommodate the Apprentice’s training needs but will not exceed a one-year period. Apprentices can work in one of the following departments: Accounting, Information Technology, Operations & Maintenance, Human Resources, Lands, Security, or Legal. Work locations vary depending on available work and the successful applicants areas of interests.
