Apprentice - Service Technicians, perform technical works involving the dismantling, repairing, relocating, modifying, maintaining, aligning, and installing of a wide variety of marine machinery, & industrial machinery equipment, and systems such as: Propulsion systems, and different drive / shaft line configurations, Propulsion system components, Steering systems, Hydraulic systems, Pneumatic systems, Non-marine Industrial installations, Ability to read and comprehend drawings & blueprints. The work requires a practical knowledge of the mechanical, and hydraulic systems and components of diverse marine machinery and their attachments. This includes detailed knowledge of the operating characteristics of the involved machinery, equipment, and systems; their functional relationships; the applicable installation and repair procedures, methods, and trade practices; and the unique environmental conditions under which work is performed aboard marine craft, for example, the lack of space between bulkheads and decks and the proximity of one type of machinery to another. For industrial installations the functional relationships of components, Lock-out / Tag-out procedures and safety procedures of the industrial facility. Service Technicians of all levels must have the varying knowledge and skill levels to accomplish technical and labor tasks/work assigned by the Job Lead or Project Technical & QA/QC Supervisors, including as a paramount requirement: Sufficient skill in and knowledge of the technical and labor tasks to effectively carry out the duties of Service Technicians outlined below. Service Technicians also perform regular non-job lead work that is usually of the same kind and level as that done by the group being led. Service Technicians are also required to perform the following non-technical tasks: On-The-Job Training / Mentoring of technicians of all levels, in new tasks/jobs to accelerate knowledge and skills acquisition, where senior level technicians have the technical knowledge, expertise, skills, and competency, Signing off competency-based skills in Technician Training Competency Skills Book, On-The-Job Training / Mentoring on the following with lower-level Service Technicians: Condition ‘As Found’ & ‘As Left’ data collection: Reason for the data collection and how it is used to identify actual & potential technical issues, Which Condition ‘As Found’ & ‘As Left’ data is required for what job tasks, Correct procedures and techniques to obtain data, Use of correct tooling to record data, Recording procedures. Identification, knowledge, and comprehension of purpose of drive / shaft line components, and configurations, Optical Alignment Checks, Laser Alignment Checks, Any and all other technical works – Marine & Industrial, Report writing per the DATUM RMS standard service & technical reports or clients, Comprehension of service & technical reports, and ability to identify required works from the reports.
