Apprentice Software Engineer

In this apprentice role, you'll learn by doing -- contributing to real projects on our employee recognition platform while partnering closely with experienced engineers. O.C. Requirements

  • Experience with the Spring framework (Spring / Spring Boot)
  • Familiarity with API development and integration (REST and/or GraphQL)
  • Working knowledge of Java (ability to read, write, and debug Java code)
  • Working knowledge of SQL (writing queries to read and analyze data)
  • Familiarity with source control and standard development workflows (e.g., Git)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the React JS framework is helpful, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Help identify, analyze, and remediate software vulnerabilities and accessibility issues
  • Support the team by researching system capabilities and sharing findings with other developers
  • Build and improve automated tests and test tooling for our employee recognition system
  • With guidance from senior engineers, learn product requirements and help implement new features for our next-generation recognition platform
  • Collaborate with your mentor and teammates through pair programming, design discussions, and regular check-ins
  • Write clean, maintainable code and contribute to code reviews -- both giving and receiving constructive feedback
  • Document technical decisions, changes, and troubleshooting steps to help keep the team aligned
  • Participate in sprint ceremonies (standups, planning, reviews, retrospectives) and help break down work into well-scoped tasks
  • Monitor and help troubleshoot issues in lower environments, and learn how we operate and support software in production
