About The Position

Under immediate supervision, work as a lineman in training on a line construction or maintenance crew, progressing toward Journeyman Lineman status over a three-year period. Follow the Apprentice Lineman Agreement and curriculum, beginning with unenergized circuits and advancing to energized circuits of progressively higher voltages. Work under a Lineman’s immediate supervision until demonstrated ability to perform each phase safely and skillfully, and later perform qualifying work independently. The program includes an examination, which may be oral, written, practical, or a combination of these, at its conclusion. The role includes assembling line materials, hardware, and pole fixtures; climbing poles; assisting Linemen with services, secondaries, and conductors; performing groundwork; and gradually taking on work involving energized conductors and higher voltages. The apprentice also performs assigned similar or less-skilled work and prepares for examination by undertaking more difficult work under a foreman’s direct but not constant supervision. The position requires adherence to safety rules and use of appropriate protective equipment, prudent care of company and customer equipment, vehicles, tools, and materials, reliable attendance, and regular availability and timely response to call-outs. The apprentice communicates with employees and the public and maintains cooperative working relationships. Work is outdoors in varied weather and may involve nighttime emergency storm work, cramped positions, uneven or slippery footing, traffic, electrical or steam hazards, heavy materials, minor cuts and bruises, fall or falling-object risks, and trench cave-ins. A 25-mile domicile requirement applies. Hourly pay is $43.80 at Grade Step BC 004, Step 1 of 1 (Top Step). The position is eligible for annual incentive payments based on company performance and management discretion. Benefits are available to regular full-time employees; details are provided on the company’s Benefits & Perks Page.
