About The Position

Under general supervision to perform general gas service work including inspection and servicing of most complicated appliance installations. This role involves reading, setting, removing, changing, and turning gas meters on and off, and replacing gas meter registers. The position also includes reading and turning electric meters on and off as required, installing and removing single-phase kilowatt hour socket type meters up to 200 amperes in conjunction with gas order work, tracing piping, inspecting, adjusting, and making emergency repairs to gas appliances, and performing public building and gas service inspections. Additionally, the role requires surveying gas facilities, performing surveillance and rechecking gas leaks, making intelligent records and reports, and ensuring adherence to all Safety and Good Housekeeping Rules. Under direct supervision, the apprentice will assist with gas leaks and stoppages, repair gas pressure regulators, and inspect and repair gas valves.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED
Relevant Work Experience
Sound physical condition
Ability to plan work and adapt to various duties
General knowledge of Company policies, routines and procedures
Good appearance, speech and manners
Resourcefulness, initiative and ability to work without direct supervision
Ability to train and lead
Must pass Gas Troubleshooter Predictor test
Subject to drug and alcohol testing as required by the Department of Transportation
Employees shall not be eligible to apply for vacant positions outside Gas Service until they have completed 24 months of work
All employees bidding into any Gas Service position must live within a 40-mile drive of the posted Headquarters

Responsibilities

Perform general gas service work including inspection and servicing of most complicated appliance installations.
Read, set, remove, change and turn gas meters on and off, replace gas meter registers.
Read and turn on and off electric meters as required.
Install and remove one single phase kilowatt hour socket type meter up to and including 200 amperes in conjunction with gas order work.
Trace piping.
Inspect, adjust, and make emergency repairs to any gas appliances.
Perform public building and gas service inspections.
Perform surveillance and recheck gas leaks.
Survey gas facilities.
Make intelligent records and reports.
Ensure all Safety and Good Housekeeping Rules are followed.
Assist in gas leaks and stoppages under direct supervision.
Assist in repair of gas pressure regulators under direct supervision.
Assist in inspection and repair of gas valves under direct supervision.
