About The Position

Helix Electric, a leading electrical contracting company, is seeking a dynamic Apprentice Electrician to join their production-driven team. This role involves performing electrical installations and troubleshooting in commercial, industrial, and large multi-family settings. The apprentice will be responsible for assisting with or completing the assembly, installation, maintenance, and testing of electrical equipment and wiring systems, ensuring adherence to code and job specifications. The position requires operating equipment safely and efficiently, using tools such as hydraulic benders and power threaders, and learning to read and interpret blueprints and electrical drawings. A commitment to safety, schedule, and budget, along with a growing knowledge of building codes and strong communication skills, are essential.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate equipment only if trained and certified.
  • Ability to set up and operate tools such as hydraulic benders, power threaders, and cable vacuum systems.
  • Ability to learn to read blueprints and electrical drawings and install as specified.
  • Ability to verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances per drawings or plans.
  • Ability to secure and lock up equipment after use.
  • Proven track record of delivering safe projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Willingness to learn and use excellent working knowledge of the Building Codes.
  • Willingness to develop and use strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, including crawling, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, sitting, reaching, able to routinely lift heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds and pushing and pulling of objects is required.
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
  • Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, snow.
  • Experience wearing personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, and gloves always), respirator when required.
  • Ability to work 8-10 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime, and night shifts as required.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting or completing assembly, installation, maintenance, and testing of electrical equipment and wiring systems in commercial, industrial, and large multi-family settings.
  • Preparing work areas for equipment installation.
  • Installing or assisting with the installation of electrical components.
  • Connecting wiring and equipment according to code and job specifications.
  • Operating equipment only if trained and certified (e.g., powder-activated tools, JLG lifts).
  • Setting up and operating tools such as hydraulic benders, power threaders, and cable vacuum systems.
  • Learning to read blueprints and electrical drawings and installing as specified.
  • Verifying dimensions, alignments, and clearances per drawings or plans.
  • Securing and locking up equipment after use.
  • Delivering safe projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Learning and applying excellent working knowledge of Building Codes.
  • Developing and using strong communication and interpersonal skills.
