About The Position

The Apprentice Electrician is a training position designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a competent and safe Journeyman Electrician. This role is based at the Repair Shop facility in Forest Park, GA, with occasional travel to other work locations for on-site equipment repair. Apprentices will work alongside Journeyman Electricians to maintain and recondition distribution and transmission equipment, including transformers, reclosers, power transformers, mobile substations, and breakers. The training also covers operating an oil processing station and using various tools and equipment such as cranes, forklifts, saws, drill presses, and pneumatic tools. The position requires support for a 24/7 work schedule, including holidays and overtime, with willingness to work various shifts (day or evening) and be subject to callout overtime. The work environment may involve adverse conditions like poor weather, extreme temperatures, working at elevated heights, or in confined spaces.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must qualify on both the Construction and Skilled Trades Test (CAST) and the Skills, Knowledge, and Aptitude Test (SKAT) - Electrical.
  • Strong safety awareness and adherence to safety practices.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Relevant work-related experience with basic transformer operating theory.
  • Basic understanding of wiring diagrams and control schematics.
  • Knowledge of electrical symbols and formulas.
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools.
  • Good hand and eye coordination.
  • Basic understanding of AC / DC electrical theory.
  • Willingness to maintain regular attendance.
  • Availability to work outside normal operating hours which could include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work various shifts, primarily day and evening shifts.
  • Availability to respond to any emergency callout.
  • Must be a team player, customer oriented, trainable, and willing to develop their career.
  • Understanding of the value of customer service and support.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must possess or able to obtain a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification card within the first 6 months on the job.
  • Willingness to work outside in all climate conditions.
  • Willingness to work at heights requiring the use of fall-protection (greater than 4ft.).
  • Ability to work in tight or congested areas and in abnormal positions.
  • Must successfully qualify on the Post Offer Employment Test (POET) by demonstrating ability to complete certain physical tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Two-year technical degree or certificate in Electrical / Electronic Technology and/or related experience in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical or Mechanical Maintenance.
  • Military experience as Electrical or Mechanical Technician a plus.
  • Experience in Industrial Electrician and Mechanical maintenance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Train and complete tasks associated with the Journeyman Development program.
  • Repair and recondition all distribution and transmission equipment.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of Distribution and Transmission related equipment such as overheads, single phase and three phase transformers, reclosers, power transformers, mobile substations, and breakers.
  • Learn to competently operate an oil processing station.
  • General usage of hand tools.
  • Operating equipment such as cranes, forklifts, saws, drill press, and pneumatic tools.
  • Support a 24/7 work schedule including holidays and overtime.
  • Work various shifts, generally day or evening shifts.
  • Respond to emergency callout overtime situations.
  • Work outside basic job functions as needed to support the business.
