About The Position

Georgia Power is seeking Apprentice Electricians to support the construction of transmission substations throughout Georgia. This role involves hands-on construction, installation, equipment operation, and field support in a physically demanding outdoor environment. Successful candidates will participate in a comprehensive three- to four-year training program, with potential for an accelerated 12- to 18-month program for those with significant prior substation experience. The position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and requires flexibility for overtime, call-outs, and storm response. Employees will be assigned to work locations throughout the State of Georgia.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a valid driver's license and ability to attain a CDL within 6 months of employment
  • Pass the Construction and Skilled Trades Exam (CAST test)
  • Pass a Post Offer Evaluation Test
  • Successfully meet requirements for a Pre-Employment (DOT) physical exam approved by the company physician and Worker's Compensation Medical Questionnaire
  • Weigh and maintain body weight at or below 325 pounds fully dressed including steel-toed work boots and hardhat
  • Ability to perform physically demanding activities while working outside in all weather conditions
  • Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude or background
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Ability to take instruction, direction and translate those into actions
  • Exhibited safe work practices as evidenced by a history of working accident and injury free
  • Transmission substation equipment and installation work to include bus fabrication, foundation installation, print reading and layout, switch installation, structure grounding or other substation construction skills
  • Be self-motivated
  • Take personal ownership of projects and assignments
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work in a team environment
  • Good communication skills
  • Report to work on time daily

  • Understand the value of customer service and support

Nice To Haves

  • Three or more years of substation experience (may qualify for accelerated training program)
  • Prior experience in Transmission Substation Construction
  • Prior Mechanical Experience
  • Prior Industrial construction, maintenance, utility, electrical and/or military experience
  • Experience working outdoors
  • Experience with heavy equipment / machinery
  • Experience with heavy load rigging / lifting
  • Experience as emergency responders
  • Experience as a commercial truck driver
  • Experience with tree trimming
  • Experience with farming
  • General math skills (Addition/Subtraction/Fractions)
  • Knowledge of tape measures
  • Carpentry experience
  • Experience in labor-intensive occupations or physically demanding work environment
  • Experience working with tools including drills, circular saws, hydraulic presses or other battery powered hand tools
  • Experience with construction machinery such as skid steers, excavators, back hoes, cranes or heavy load rigging and lifting
