About The Position

The Apprentice Electrician will be responsible for completing a 4-year electrical apprenticeship program, which includes obtaining 288 electrical instruction hours and 8,000 on-the-job training hours. This apprenticeship provides trainees with a thorough knowledge of all aspects of the electrical trade. Apprentices will work on all aspects of electrical construction, from initial underground work to final punch list items. They will work under the supervision of a Journeyman electrician to learn various aspects of the electrical trade while working towards earning their own Journeyman Wireman license.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED or minimum one (1) year construction experience or previous electrical internship or pre-apprenticeship program completion.
Following all safety protocols set by general contractor, owners, and Duro Electric.
Participating in morning stretches, weekly tool box talks, and all safety stand downs.
Continually gaining knowledge and speed of all aspects of the electrical trade.
Ability to follow verbal and written direction from designated site leaders and various Duro office staff members.
Ability and willingness to travel to sites within assigned territory.
Meeting Duro’s minimum tool requirement at time of hire and ability to continue building tool kit during apprenticeship.
Required to go to electrical apprentice school at Duro’s school partner.
Basic math and reading comprehension.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong attendance record and the ability to be prompt and on time daily.
Ability to follow all company procedures and protocols including the employee handbook and operations manual.
Intermediate skills relating to verbal and written communication.
Willingness to ask questions in order to better understand work objectives.
Valid Driver’s License and Reliable source of transportation.

Nice To Haves

High school courses in mathematics, electricity, electronics, mechanical drawing, science, and shop.
Technical school background.
OSHA-10 Certification.
Forklift and scissor lift certifications.
Electrical pre-apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

Completing a 4-year electrical apprenticeship program.
Obtaining 288 electrical instruction hours and 8,000 on-the-job training hours.
Working all aspects of electrical construction from initial underground to final punch list items.
Working under the observation of a Journeyman electrician.
Following all safety rules and regulations while on the job site and while operating company vehicles.
Following plans for new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials.
Ensuring reliable wiring and workmanship consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
Reviewing sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or following diagrams or blueprints.
Measuring, cutting, bending, threading, assembling, and installing electrical conduit.
Testing continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing instruments.
Installing control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.
Pulling wiring through conduit and other premanufactured cables.
Splicing wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
Observing functionality of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
Connecting wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
Connecting power cables to equipment such as electric range or motor and installed grounding leads.
Attending and passing electrical trade school until a minimum of 288 electrical education hours are met.
Cleaning as you go and maintaining a clean working environment.
Performing physical labor, which may include hand digging, heavy lifting, and carrying various construction materials.
Assisting in repair of faulty equipment and systems.
Performing additional duties as assigned.
