As we continue to grow, we are accepting applications for Apprentice Carpenters, for upcoming work in Calgary, AB. As an Apprentice Carpenter, you are a talented builder and critical member of the Benchmark Builders field team. Benchmark Builders is accepting applications from Apprentice Carpenters for upcoming work in Calgary, AB. The Apprentice Carpenter is responsible for assisting our carpenters with new build construction, renovations, and the repairing of buildings and other structures made of wood, wood substitutes, steel, concrete and other materials. The apprentice will work under the supervision of a journeyman carpenter, assisting them in their duties while actively training and gaining a better understanding of the trade.

Requirements

  • Must have availability to work weekends, nights, and out of town as needed.
  • Knowledge of commercial construction and remodeling trades, practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, and safety.
  • Proficient at the following tasks: wood backing, framing, hang doors, drill and set door hardware, set windows, layout for stairs and common rafters, read blueprints, utilize appropriate math skills.
  • Learn and actively practice essential carpentry skills on the job.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Set up and maintain tools for your supervising carpenter.
  • Own transportation, valid driver’s license with satisfactory driver’s abstract.
  • Ability to multi task with strong attention to detail.

  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to accurately measure, cut, fit and finish materials

  • Able to work at varying heights, including the use of ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms
  • Capacity to work in confined or awkward positions, in a range of environmental conditions, including outdoor and variable weather conditions
  • Able to safely and efficiently operate hand tools and power tools, for prolonged periods
  • Able to stand and walk for long periods of time, bend and crouch frequently

Nice To Haves

  • Able to operate a skid steer and rough terrain forklift is considered an asset
