About The Position

This position involves technical work related to property appraisal and valuation for ad valorem taxation. The role can be filled as an Appraiser I, performing work of moderate difficulty under general supervision, or as an Appraiser Aide, assisting in technical work of routine difficulty under direct supervision. Responsibilities include gathering property appraisal information, establishing property values, responding to petitions for review, preparing data for administrative appeals, and communicating with the public regarding property values and related matters. The Appraiser I role also includes assisting in training entry-level appraisers.

Requirements

  • Appraiser I: Must possess Level I State of Arizona Appraiser Certification from the Department of Revenue as per ARS 42-13006.
  • Appraiser I: One (1) year general experience relating to the basics and fundamentals of residential and light commercial property appraisal.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license.
  • Ability to be covered by county insurance.
  • Appraiser Aide: Must obtain Level I State of Arizona certification within one (1) year of employment as per ARS 123.02.
  • Working knowledge of map reading and property legal descriptions (Appraiser I).
  • Working knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques used in property assessment.
  • Working knowledge of guidelines and statutes affecting property assessment.
  • Working skill in preparing sketches and diagrams of assessed buildings.
  • Working skill in making arithmetical computations.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret the factors affecting property values.
  • Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to prepare reports and present facts clearly, verbally and in writing (Appraiser I).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instruction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing (Appraiser Aide).

Responsibilities

  • Establish value of real and personal property value for ad valorem taxation.

  • Communicate with the public on matters such as property values, ownership, legal description, property tax exemptions, and statutory classification.
  • Assist in the training of entry level appraisers (Appraiser I only).
