About The Position

This position provides technical and administrative support for the department’s property appraisal functions and day-to-day administrative operations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of modern office principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of property owner appeal processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in the provision of customer services.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting documents rules, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Skill in identifying and resolving problems.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Iowa for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and processes all declarations of value, deeds, contracts, and splits; assigns appropriate NUTC code for each sale; records transactions on spreadsheet; enters deeds and verifies ownership changes.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records in the Computer-Aided Mass Appraisal (CAMA) system; reviews and reviews transactions and legal descriptions.
  • Inputs Declarations of Value data into the Department of Revenue (DOR) online portal.
  • Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance to property owners, mortgage lenders, and others related property legal descriptions, lot size, valuations, etc.
  • Provides information and assistance to taxpayers related to tax exemption and credit applications and to the assessment appeals process; reviews and processes applications for credits and exemptions.
  • Scans and copies documents.
  • Operates a variety of databases to obtain deed and property information.
  • Receives and logs informal review applications; assists the Office Administrator with the Board of Review process; schedules appointments and prints agendas; attends meetings to provide assistance to the Board; prepares written verdicts and minutes.
  • Reserves the conference room as requested.
  • Updates new addresses in the 911 database.
  • Maintains, reviews, and updates Auditor’s Office inventory records.
  • Operates the office work order and postage meter systems.
  • Files all property record cards with new construction or revaluation changes by parcel number.
  • Performs related duties.
