Wake County Tax Administration is looking for a Real Property Appraisal Supervisor to join our team. The Appraisal Supervisor reports to the Appraisal Manager and works in collaboration with the other Appraisal Managers to manage staff and work processes of the real property appraisal division.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Three years of experience in real or commercial property appraisal.
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted.
  • Strength in exercising independent and sound judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions involving a variety of fiscal and business areas.
  • Exceptional communicator with the ability to express oneself clearly, concisely, and factually with tact and diplomacy.
  • Strong conflict resolution abilities to effectively manage concerns and disputes.
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated history of continuous improvement and strong leadership and management experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Four years of management experience working in an urban government setting.
  • One year of supervisory or team lead experience.
  • Strong understanding of all approaches to valuation including cost, sales comparison and income.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of local government taxation and of the North Carolina Machinery Act.
  • Extensive experience with appraisal and assessment of real property.
  • Robust data extraction and analysis skills.
  • Significant experience with report generation and distribution.
  • IAAO designation of CAE, RES, and/or AAS preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily supervision and direction to team members and project teams, ensuring compliance with Wake County General Rules of Employment and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Under the leadership of the appraisal manager, implement and manage tasks supporting the full revaluation life cycle.
  • Analyze appraisal data to monitor and promote accuracy, consistency, and uniformity in property valuations.
  • Communicate trends, issues, and operational needs while ensuring established policies, productivity standards, and customer service expectations are met.
  • Train and develop staff; review and approve timesheets; prepare supporting documentation for human resources actions; and conduct employee performance reviews.
  • Assist with the recruitment, interviewing, selection, and hiring of real estate appraisal and support staff.
