About The Position

MITRE is a nonprofit engineering, applied research, and advanced technology organization working in the public interest. Its Operations Analysis department is a group of more than 60 operations research professionals, including more than 20 PhDs, who provide analytical and technical support to government sponsors. The group addresses complex interdisciplinary problems involving organizations, operations, and technology across defense and public-sector areas such as homeland defense, military logistics, health care, cybersecurity, fraud detection, satellite planning, and aviation. Its methods include optimization, mathematical and statistical modeling, simulation, machine learning, forecasting, and other advanced analytical techniques. The Operations Research Analyst applies analytical and mathematical modeling to inform policy and acquisition decisions and improve operational effectiveness, efficiency, and engineering outcomes. The role involves framing problems, working with data, developing algorithms, identifying risks, and communicating actionable findings to both technical and nontechnical audiences. The analyst works independently and collaboratively with technical staff and domain experts. The position requires at least four days per week onsite and eligibility to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. government security clearance; the hired candidate must obtain that clearance within one year of hire.
