About The Position

As an Engineer 1 in Applied Material & Behavior at Colibrium Additive, you will contribute to the research, development, and application of various additive materials and their behavioral characteristics across additive modalities. This entry-level position involves supporting senior engineers in material characterization, material applications, and component design.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years (specific) experience)

Nice To Haves

• Fundamental understanding of material science principles, including crystallography, phase transformations, mechanical properties, and material degradation mechanisms.
• Demonstrated experience with laboratory techniques and test standards for material characterization (e.g., SEM, XRD, TEM, mechanical testing).
• Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Excel).
• Strong problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly.
• Ability to work effectively in a broader program team-oriented environment.
• Familiarity with CAD software and DG&T is helpful for machined specimens.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and execution of material characterization test plans (mechanical, physical, chemical properties) using various standard test methods.
• Conduct internal evaluations including macro and micro hardness, metallography, and other testing as required by programs.
• Coordinate external testing at vendors by shipping and receiving test specimens, assigning test conditions, and ensuring testing is completed in accordance with requirements.
• Compile data from material testing, complete data analysis, generate material behavior curves.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Sourcing, Quality, Design, Manufacturing, PrintOps) to execute programs on time and on budget.
• Conduct post-test SEM fractography and other evaluations to determine failure modes and validate or invalidate expected material behavior.
• Document and share collaborative experimental procedures, results, and findings.
• Present technical data including material behavior curves and statistical conclusions to internal and external audiences.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and quality standards in the laboratory and workplace.
