About The Position

We are seeking an Applied Engineering Technologist to join our Spectrum and Signature Solutions team of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. This division is invested in the spectrum convergence mission space. Our mission is to “Understand, shape, and exploit the electromagnetic environment for the Warfighter’s advantage. Develop strategic & operational advantages for the warfighter, and defend national interests across the vehicle domain. ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.

Requirements

• Active security clearance at the Top Secret level or higher
• Hands on experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
• Hands on experience is required with in-the-lab and in-the-field troubleshooting of military communication and information systems
• Familiarity with MATLAB and/or Python for instrument control and data analysis
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Past success in providing ideas in written form for clear comprehension to an audience
• Bachelor's Degree
• 1+ years of relevant experience
• Must be a U.S. citizen

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project leadership with the conceptual design of complex electromechanical systems and subsystems
• Conduct tests, provide results, address issues, and recommend modifications related to electrical, mechanical, or software subsystems
• Provide knowledge in radar and communications systems for air and sea-based operations by assessing performance using geospatial intelligence systems
• Contribute to solutions for the automation/control of RF instrumentation.
• Conduct RF/microwave lab-based and in-the-field measurements and experimentation
• Facilitate measurements at outdoor test ranges
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of and work towards developing an advanced knowledge of design and analysis tools, test and measurement equipment, languages, and available products and services for RF measurements
• Assist with field-measurement setups and test plans
