About The Position

This is an existing vacancy for five (5) casual Intensive Behaviour Therapist positions. The Intensive Behaviour Therapist works directly with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families in the provision of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) in individual, small group and/ or mediator sessions in the areas of communication, behaviour management/ emotional regulation, social/ interpersonal skills and daily living. This position also provides adjunct caregiver education skill building sessions. The service is delivered in center-based environments and at times through telehealth. Some community implementations may be required (e.g., school, daycare, home, etc.).

Requirements

  • Degree or relevant diploma in Psychology, Social Services/ Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Work and/ or a degree or post-graduate certificate in Behavioural Sciences or Autism Behavioural Science, or completion of 2-week ministry approved training.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), and Evidence Based Interventions.
  • Understanding of Ontario Autism Program (current and historical information) - have a general understanding of the ministry changes, Ontario Autism Program funding options and how that will affect the clients and their delivery of service.
  • Schedule availability and flexibility for casual work.

  • Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct behavioural services based on the principles of ABA to children diagnosed with Autism. This includes but is not limited to Evidence Based Interventions, individual behaviour consultation, and group teaching services with the goal of teaching communication, behaviour management/ emotional regulation, social/interpersonal skills, play skills, activities of daily living and pre-academic skills.
  • Implement individualized skill acquisition programs to increase appropriate behaviour for one to one or small group sessions.
  • Implement and follow behaviour reduction plans to manage maladaptive behaviours.
  • Provide caregiver training using Behaviour Skills Training (BST) on client’s skill acquisition program and/ or behaviour reduction program.
  • Collect and track data based on the client’s progress during the intervention (includes individualized, group, or caregiver mediated interventions); introduce new targets or revisions as per individualized programming.
  • Complete administrative duties to ensure proper documentation as outlined by the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts, Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), and Ministry requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Perform other duties as required to support clinical team and workplace.
