Applied AI Engineer
About The Position
We are hiring an Applied AI Engineer to own the conversation layer of an AI-first fundraising platform. This role involves developing agents that handle replies, manage conversations to booked meetings, and maintain relationships across warm outreach, investor networks, and investor relations. Paires is a two-sided platform designed to help founders raise capital by connecting them with suitable investors from a global network. The platform is live, profitable, and self-funded, developed by a small, senior, and agile team. The core responsibility of this role is to manage how Paires converses, ensuring all replies are handled effectively and promptly. This includes managing booking, nurture, and coaching experiences built on the same data. The position starts with developing our reply and messaging system and will evolve into a central product feature. The engineer will also be responsible for building broader applied-AI features across the platform. This is not a research-focused role; the expectation is to build systems that conduct real, ongoing conversations with external users, not internal knowledge bots or RAG demos. The focus is on agents that carry existing conversations forward, rather than initiating cold outreach.
Requirements
- Experience shipping conversational LLM systems to production with real users (e.g., reply handling, support, booking, or nurture agents). Inbound work experience is fully applicable.
- Proven ability to build evaluation systems, including creating golden sets from scratch, defining judge criteria, and making data-driven ship/rollback decisions.
- Experience integrating LLMs with email, CRM, or messaging systems.
- An operator mindset, understanding the business goals behind messaging.
- Strong engineering skills with an approximate 80/20 engineering to research ratio.
- Ability to move fast with AI tooling and take ownership of outcomes.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Python, Supabase, Pydantic AI, Claude Agent SDK, or AWS.
- Experience with email and CRM integrations.
- Exposure to RevOps.
- Sales or Investor Relations experience.
Responsibilities
- Develop agents that read inbound messages and draft appropriate replies quickly, with human oversight.
- Manage the messaging layer across warm outreach, warm investor networks, and investor relations.
- Build end-to-end conversational agents for replies, booking, nurture, and support that sound human.
- Establish and maintain the evaluation framework for quality control, including golden sets, judges, and guardrails.
- Develop broader applied-AI features such as classification, extraction, routing, and summarization.
