About The Position

The Applications Programmer I will work in a collaborative, mission-driven environment at UCF's Center for Distributed Learning (CDL) - a team dedicated to advancing digital learning through innovation and technology. In this role, you will contribute to the application lifecycle by designing, developing, testing, implementing, and supporting digital learning applications and related systems. You will work alongside a team of experienced developers and fellow contributors, implementing solutions based on documented functional requirements and established development standards that directly support teaching, learning, and departmental operations. This is an Auxiliary (AUX) funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
  • All applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position, and the university cannot accommodate H‑1B transfers or employment-based visa processing for individuals currently sponsored by another employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Foundational proficiency with full-stack development concepts, including front-end and back-end technologies.
  • Basic experience with relational or NoSQL databases.
  • Foundational understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), including testing, debugging, and writing maintainable code; exposure to tools like Docker or CI/CD pipelines is a plus.
  • Experience using Git-based version control systems.
  • Exposure to APIs or system integrations along with awareness of secure coding practices, accessibility standards and data privacy concepts.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems or similar tools used in higher education, EdTech, or digital learning environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, code, test, and debug application components, enhancements, and fixes for digital learning applications per established functional and technical requirements.
  • Implement front-end and back-end functionality using established development standards, frameworks, and architectural guidelines.
  • Support deployment processes and contribute to the ongoing maintenance and operational stability of assigned applications.
  • Contribute to the development, testing, and validation of system integrations (e.g., APIs, LTI tools, data services) per defined specifications.
  • Troubleshoot application issues, document root cause findings and resolutions, and escalate complex or unresolved problems to senior team members.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including code documentation, implementation notes, and user support materials.
  • Support data queries, reporting, and validation processes to meet application functionality and departmental operational needs.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers, faculty, and technical team members to translate requirements into development solutions.
