Applications Engineer

Elevate Semiconductor•San Diego, CA
•$85,000 - $100,000

About The Position

ElevATE Semiconductor designs low-power, high-density ICs for Automated Test Equipment (ATE), including integrated pin electronics. Applications Engineering works between customers and the Design, Product, and Quality Engineering teams. The role involves creating customer-facing technical materials, building evaluation boards and software, and leading technical debugging when customer systems encounter problems. This early-career position is suited to someone who enjoys laboratory work and wants to develop strong hands-on engineering skills. Initial work includes bench measurements, EVM support, and documentation alongside senior engineers, with customer issues added as product knowledge grows. The position involves a mix of laboratory testing and communicating findings to people who need to act on them.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or be graduating soon.
  • 0–2 years of professional experience in applications, test, product, or systems engineering on semiconductor products.
  • Extensive experience with bench equipment, including oscilloscopes, SMUs, power supplies, and AWGs, gained through an internship, co-op, research, serious personal project, or senior-design project.
  • Experience with analog and mixed-signal circuits.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in semiconductor test, ATE, measurement equipment, or high-performance instrumentation.
  • Experience in analog or mixed-signal design, or transistor-level debugging.
  • Exposure to PCB design review and bring-up, or experience using tools such as Altium or Allegro.
  • Familiarity with SPICE simulation tools such as LTspice or PSpice.
  • Experience using programming languages or tools for test automation and data analysis, such as Python, C, JMP, or Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Generate technical documentation for ElevATE products, including datasheets, product guides, application notes, and other materials supporting customer integration.
  • Support customer and system-level debugging by defining problems, reproducing them in the lab, driving root-cause investigations with Design, Product, and Quality Engineering, and closing the loop with customers.
  • Perform bench testing and analysis to support customer inquiries and troubleshoot issues.
  • Reproduce customer observations and provide technical guidance on using ElevATE parts.
  • Build, bring up, and maintain EVMs and laboratory setups.
  • Respond to customer and internal questions by collecting details, reproducing issues, and drafting reports of findings.
  • Learn schematic review and system troubleshooting on real customer designs with mentoring.
  • Take ownership of smaller support issues and documentation tasks as experience grows.
  • Support failure, quality, and reliability analysis in conjunction with the operations team.
  • Support sales activities by assisting with product recommendations for new customer designs and participating in on-site customer visits to promote ElevATE IC products.

Benefits

  • Employees may be eligible for incentive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package.
