About The Position
A well-established manufacturer of submersible pumps and integrated pump control systems is hiring an Applications Engineer at its New Haven, Connecticut headquarters. The company serves four core markets, industrial, wastewater, mining, and dewatering, through a domestic and international distributor network. This is the technical hub of the sales organization. You will be the person distributors and end users call when they need the right pump selected, sized, and quoted correctly the first time.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree, engineering preferred
- 3 or more years in a sales engineering or applications engineering role
- Ability to read and interpret pump performance curves
- Ability to read engineering drawings and electrical schematics
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
- Experience pricing and preparing formal quotations
- Familiarity with distribution sales channels
- Ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong customer service instincts and business judgment
- Ability to manage a variable workload and prioritize independently
- Proficiency with Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Willingness to travel in support of outside sales and training
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of pump construction and materials selection
- Familiarity with control panel logic
- Experience with municipal specifications and public bid processes
- CAD or SolidWorks
- ERP experience, particularly Microsoft Dynamics Business Central
Responsibilities
- Interview distributors and end users to identify pump selection criteria and define the application
- Select the right products across the full line, including pumps, controls, replacement and spare parts, and submersible accessories
- Prepare formal quotations from published price lists and product data sheets
- Match pumped liquid properties to available materials of construction
- Define control panel requirements and logic, developing engineered panels with support from the Controls group
- Confirm electrical power requirements against product characteristics
- Identify competitor products and cross them to the correct equivalents
- Surface new applications and product features, and route end users to the right distributor in their market
- Support sales, marketing, and engineering on product training and promotional programs
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts across the operation
