About The Position
The Applications Engineer 2 evaluates customer requirements and prepares quotations for nVenia product lines, with responsibility for accurate budgeted costs and field sales support. The role works independently with some oversight and supports the development of customer-specific equipment concepts and proposals. The position reviews requests for quotes, custom specifications, and customer sales requests; determines whether nVenia can provide a solution; and matches customer requirements to nVenia products. It develops machine configurations, conceptual layouts, package configurations, and production-rate calculations to identify equipment that meets customer needs. The role also prepares professional proposal documents, coordinates with engineering and other departments on technical and cost inputs, and contributes to successful project kickoffs. The Applications Engineer supports field sales through travel or internal customer support as needed and runs equipment across multiple product lines to understand usability and capabilities. The position is based in Wood Dale, Illinois, is full-time, and involves a day shift with travel up to 25%.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred; the job details list a 4-year degree as the education level.
- Applications Engineering or Sales Engineering experience in an engineering capacity, such as design and/or quoting, is required.
- Solid knowledge of manufacturing and engineering processes.
- Experience with AutoCAD and proficiency in Word and Excel.
- Critical and creative thinking and complex problem-solving skills.
- Self-management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with different departments and customers.
- Strong organizational skills and technical aptitude.
- Solid understanding of multiple nVenia product lines.

Responsibilities
- Review and understand customer requests for quotes, custom specifications, and sales requests.
- Determine whether nVenia has a solution for customer requirements and identify the best-fit products.
- Read customer order specifications and compare them with nVenia products.
- Develop initial customer concepts and machine configurations to meet request-for-quote needs.
- Create conceptual quotation layout drawings using AutoCAD.
- Calculate space, flow, package configuration, and production rates for nVenia equipment.
- Present proposed equipment concepts to engineering and validate the concepts.
- Prepare quotations across a variety of product lines.
- Consult Product Managers and Engineers about customer-specific requirements.
- Consult Production Managers regarding labor hours and Supply Chain regarding material costs.
- Analyze historical cost data to project costs based on nVenia’s manufacturing methodology.
- Prepare accurate, professional proposal documents with strong formatting and concepts.
- Work with engineering, product management, and sales to understand competitive advantages and new designs and incorporate them into proposals.
- Work with Engineering on successful project kickoffs.
- Develop solutions with sales to satisfy customer requirements.
- Support Field Sales through travel or internal customer support as required.
- Run equipment on multiple product lines to understand usability and capabilities.
