About The Position

Citi is seeking a highly motivated Applications Development Senior Programmer Analyst to join the Collateral Management Engines Technology team within Markets Technology. The role designs, builds, and enhances high-throughput, enterprise-grade Arranging Engines and Rehypothecation Engines for tier-one institutional hedge fund clients. The Arranging Engine enables financing structures that provide enhanced leverage and margin optimization beyond standard Regulation T and Portfolio Margin constraints. The Rehypothecation Engine calculates and manages eligible client collateral available for reuse to support firm financing, client debit balance funding, securities lending, and centralized market operations in compliance with regulatory frameworks such as SEC Rule 15c3-3 and CASS/SFTR. The developer collaborates with product managers, quantitative analysts, business analysts, and engineering leads to deliver scalable, resilient, low-latency, cloud-ready solutions using Java, Spring Boot, and enterprise SQL databases. The position covers the full software development lifecycle, including architecture and design, implementation, automated testing, deployment, production support, and ongoing modernization.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of professional hands-on software development experience architecting and building enterprise-scale distributed systems.
  • In-depth expertise in Core Java (Java 17+), concurrency and multithreading, JVM internals and memory tuning, data structures and algorithms, I/O and network programming, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and RESTful API architecture.
  • Extensive experience with relational database management systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, indexing strategies, and transaction isolation management.
  • Practical experience implementing microservices architectures, REST/JSON APIs, and distributed messaging or event-streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka, TIBCO EMS, or Solace.
  • Foundation in unit and integration testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
  • Hands-on experience with Git/GitHub, Maven/Gradle, CI/CD pipelines such as TeamCity, Jenkins, or Harness, and Docker containerization.
  • Proactive ownership and accountability, including the ability to lead feature streams independently from design through production rollout.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet critical delivery milestones, and adapt to evolving business requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical and financial concepts to engineering and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in geographically distributed, cross-functional Agile teams.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in Prime Brokerage, Collateral Management, Securities Lending, or Margin Lending, including Regulation T or Portfolio Margin.
  • Familiarity with Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, or public cloud platforms.
  • Experience with Hibernate/JPA, distributed caching such as Redis or Hazelcast, or high-throughput batch processing such as Spring Batch.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain robust applications using Java microservices.
  • Architect modular, extensible, high-performance backend services for complex, high-volume financial calculations in real-time and batch modes.
  • Write clean, documented, testable, and maintainable code that follows engineering standards, enterprise architecture principles, and secure coding practices.
  • Design high-performance relational database schemas, stored procedures, indexing strategies, and views for high-volume financial data processing.
  • Profile and optimize backend queries, caching layers, and API response times for low-latency retrieval and reliable processing of large datasets.
  • Ensure data integrity, ACID transactional consistency, and audit trails across collateral and financing workflows.
  • Own software deliverables across the SDLC, from technical design and implementation through automated testing, deployment, and post-release support.
  • Contribute to Agile/Scrum activities including sprint planning, backlog refinement, architectural reviews, and sprint demonstrations.
  • Promote test-driven development and automated unit, integration, and contract testing using frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
  • Integrate automated builds, static code analysis, security vulnerability scanning, and deployment pipelines into CI/CD workflows.
  • Participate in platform modernization, including microservice containerization and cloud-ready architecture initiatives.
  • Work with Level 3 Application Support and DevOps teams to triage and resolve production incidents, conduct root cause analyses, and implement preventive remediations.
  • Integrate observability, telemetry, health metrics, and structured logging to support availability, resilience, and operational transparency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and distributed Agile teams to deliver software aligned with evolving business requirements.
