About The Position

The Department of Economic Security (DES) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated professional to join their Division of Technology Services (DTS) team as an Applications Developer. This role supports four mainframe systems: Job Automated System (JAS), Tax Employer Accounting Multi-system (TEAM), Computer Assisted Collection System (CACS), and General Unemployment Insurance Development Effort (GUIDE). These systems are written in Natural, COBOL, CICS and utilize ADABAS, DB2, and VSAM files. The position also provides support to DERS Customers as needed. The developer will analyze customer application change requests, requirements documents, and system investigation requests, translating them into technical specifications. Responsibilities include writing and modifying programs, testing and debugging, creating operation documentation using JobDoc, writing and testing Job Control Language (JCL), writing programs to access DB2 from Central Information File (CIF), and completing production migration requests. The role involves supporting and participating in Agile Methodology practices, including attending Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-up meetings, Sprint Reviews, and Sprint Retrospectives. The developer will assist the team in meeting Sprint commitments, create User Stories in the Product Backlog, update User Stories in the Sprint Backlog, and create/update tasks. Demonstrations of issues and solutions for assigned User Stories will be required during Sprints or Sprint reviews. This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona, depending on department needs and performance. Requirements

  • Knowledge of multiple Mainframe programming languages, multiple development platforms, such as ADABAS, DB2, VSAM file, Natural, COBOL, CICS, TSO, and JCL.

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management or Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Math, or Engineering or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of mainframe computer programming and analysis experience.
  • OR five (5) years of mainframe computer programming and analysis experience.
  • Applicants for this position will be required to apply for and show proof of receipt of a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card that meets DES requirements for a Level One card.
  • Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively solves complex CRM challenges by designing, developing, and optimizing Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), and automated workflows following Salesforce design patterns and governor limit guidelines.
  • Systematically debugs and resolves application defects to maintain high code coverage and system stability.
  • Maintains production Salesforce orgs by conducting root-cause analysis and resolving complex technical incidents in Apex, LWC, and integrations.
  • Executes unit tests maintaining high code coverage.
  • Supports UAT releases via Change Sets or DevOps pipelines.
  • Delivers iterative enhancements following Agile practices.
  • Engages with business analysts and stakeholders to understand functional requirements, and contributes to completion of functional specifications.
  • Prepares technical documentation on application specifications.
