About The Position

We are recruiting for a range of titles; the successful candidates will be placed in the appropriate job title based on qualifications. Build, enhance and support complex applications and integrations (on-premise and in the cloud) using the latest software design methodologies and development languages. Provide technical support throughout the application technology stack as well as software development consulting to business functions, management and executive leadership. We are seeking an early-career Applications Developer Engineer to support our Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) as part of Snohomish PUD's Grid Modernization (SnoSMART) initiative. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical fundamentals, curiosity, and a desire to learn utility operations. You'll work alongside experienced team members to support critical systems, improve data quality, and build tools that enhance reliability for electric operations. The ADMS platform is a critical system supporting safe, reliable electric operations. This role helps ensure the system functions effectively today while building the foundation for future initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/IT, Engineering, Mathematics, Business, or related field
  • Four (4) years of progressively more responsible experience using development tools, programming languages, coding platforms, software engineering practices and methodologies (for Applications Development Engineer I)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/IT, Engineering, Mathematics, Business, or related field, and Two (2) years of progressively more responsible experience using development tools, programming languages, coding platforms, software engineering practices and methodologies (for Applications Development Engineer II)
  • Six (6) years of progressively more responsible experience using development tools, programming languages, coding platforms, software engineering practices and methodologies (for Applications Development Engineer II)

Nice To Haves

  • 0-3 years of experience in software development, data, or technical support
  • Foundational skills in: SQL (any platform)
  • Understanding of relational database concepts (tables, keys, relationships, joins)
  • Programming or scripting (C#, Python, or similar)
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting ability
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn complex systems and the utility domain
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to work through ambiguous problems
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Exposure to GIS, ADMS, or utility systems
  • Experience working with structured data (XML, JSON, etc.)
  • Familiarity with automation, batch processing, or basic data flows

Responsibilities

  • Support ADMS system data, configuration, and day-to-day operations
  • Assist with GIS-to-ADMS model builds, validation, and issue resolution
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data issues impacting system performance and operations
  • Develop scripts or small applications to improve automation and close gaps
  • Partner with integration and data teams to investigate and resolve issues
  • Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes
  • Learn utility operations concepts and contribute to Grid Modernization efforts
