About The Position

The Applications Analyst is responsible for the administration, support, maintenance, and continuous improvement of a diverse portfolio of enterprise applications that support all areas of Butler University. Serving as a technical subject matter expert, this role provides advanced application support, troubleshooting, system configuration, patch management, and operational oversight for both cloud-hosted and on-premises solutions. The Applications Analyst partners with campus stakeholders and IT colleagues to ensure reliable, secure, and effective application services while contributing to the design, implementation, documentation, and ongoing optimization of technology solutions that advance the university’s mission.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience supporting, administering, or implementing enterprise applications in a professional IT environment.
  • Experience providing advanced technical support and troubleshooting for complex business-critical systems and applications.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting SaaS, cloud-hosted, and/or on-premises enterprise applications.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and macOS operating systems, Microsoft 365 technologies, and identity and access management concepts.
  • Familiarity with enterprise application architecture, APIs, data integrations, and system interoperability concepts.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships, including coordinating support requests, troubleshooting with third-party providers, and evaluating solution capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze business processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend technology solutions that increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, knowledge base articles, operational procedures, and end-user support materials.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, support, maintain, and optimize a portfolio of enterprise applications and services supporting academic, administrative, and operational functions across the university.
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert (SME) for assigned applications, providing advanced Tier 3 support, troubleshooting complex issues, and resolving escalated incidents and service requests.
  • Perform application lifecycle management activities, including configuration, upgrades, patching, testing, monitoring, and implementation of new features and releases.
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders to gather business requirements, evaluate solutions, and implement application enhancements that improve operational efficiency and user experience.
  • Analyze business processes and system workflows to identify opportunities for automation, optimization, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage relationships with software vendors and service providers, including coordinating support cases, evaluating product roadmaps, participating in contract or renewal discussions, and ensuring vendor performance meets institutional needs.
  • Participate in the planning, implementation, and support of cloud-based and on-premises technology solutions, ensuring alignment with university standards for security, reliability, and performance.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve technical documentation, operational procedures, system diagrams, and support materials for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to the university's knowledge management program by creating, reviewing, and updating knowledge base articles, support documentation, and self-service resources.
  • Provide end-user and departmental training for supported applications and services, including development of training materials and delivery of ad hoc instructional sessions.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) tools and capabilities, and identify opportunities to responsibly leverage AI to improve service delivery, operational efficiency, user support, and business processes.
  • Participate in technology projects as a technical lead, contributor, or liaison, collaborating with project teams to ensure successful implementation and ongoing support of application services.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining application governance, security, compliance, backup, disaster recovery, and operational support practices.
  • Participate in on-call, after-hours, or maintenance activities as required to support critical university systems and services.
  • Foster a collaborative, customer-focused approach to technology support while maintaining strong relationships with campus partners, vendors, and IT colleagues.
