About The Position

The Application Systems Administrator will be responsible for testing and implementing system and application software installations and upgrades. This role assists with planning and scheduling these installations and upgrades, and maintains the production change control schedule, participating in change management/control. The administrator performs workstation and server administration, assists with the design of backup and recovery procedures, and maintains and monitors backup schedules. They execute capacity monitoring processes, coordinate disk space planning and management, and maintain growth statistics, space forecasts, tape libraries, and software and hardware inventories. Additionally, this role monitors continuity with system software licensing and maintenance agreements, executes and monitors quality assurance processes, and conducts routine hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines. The administrator participates in an on-call rotation, solves moderately complex application software problems, and performs root-cause analysis. They escalate issues as needed and work with vendors to improve functionality. The role involves designing, coding, testing, debugging, documenting, and maintaining moderately complex application support software, as well as making modifications to purchased applications. They will also configure, install, and support moderately complex clinical device or other ancillary device integration solutions. The administrator creates tasks, work estimates, recommends resource assignments, monitors tasks, and communicates with project coordinators and clients regarding project status. They evaluate client requests to determine impact and effort, assemble and document technical requirements, and assist in the evaluation of new and existing software products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Computer Science or related field.
  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in application development and support.
  • Advanced knowledge of operating systems, databases, vendor-specific development languages or environments, and other system software.
  • Advanced knowledge of hardware and software as used in the clinical and/or business setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the inter-relationships between application code and server operating systems and desktop operating systems.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and facilitation skills and ability to explain technical subjects to non-technical clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate user requirements into system specifications.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, set appropriate priorities and accomplish assignments in a thorough and timely manner.

  • Designs moderately complex application support software such as utility programs, macros, subroutines, and control modules from detailed specifications.
  • Codes, tests, debugs, documents and maintains moderately complex application support software such as utility programs, macros, subroutines, and control modules.
  • Makes moderately complex modifications to purchased applications to fit specialized needs and configurations.
  • Configures, installs and supports moderately complex clinical device or other ancillary device integration solutions.
  • Creates tasks, work estimates and recommends resource assignments.
  • Monitors tasks and initiates corrective action to stay on schedule.
  • Communicates with project coordinators and clients in order to keep them informed with regard to project status and potential problem areas.
  • Evaluates moderately complex client requests to determine impact and effort required to accomplish.
  • Assembles and documents technical requirements of computer systems to meet business requirements.
  • Assists in the evaluation of new and existing software products.
  • Works with vendor technical counterparts to resolve problems.
