About The Position

Sensient is growing and adding an Application Scientist I to their team. This role is strongly customer-facing, involving direct communication with customers to identify project goals, define success criteria, and present solutions. The Application Scientist will also sell the value of color to consumers. Customer interactions can occur via phone, at Sensient labs, or through site visits. The role involves running projects focused on natural and synthetic colors, including the conversion of synthetic to natural color solutions, to develop technologies and applications for the food consumer market. This position aims to acquire color knowledge to promote and build new global natural color sales and reinforce existing ones by providing technical service to clients and prospects.

Requirements

A Degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or food science is required.
Strong communication skills are required to provide guidance to customers.
Ability to travel to Sensient Color division sites to work with their technical staff, as needed.
Ability to use a Colorimeter or Spectrophotometer and other equipment such as Light Boxes.

Responsibilities

Support the US Commercial team by communicating directly with customers to identify color projects, their goals, timing, and success criteria.
Act independently of the Technical Service Manager with direct customer communication.
Evaluate and match competitive natural and synthetic colors approved by the FDA.
Perform stability studies and interpret results for color blends and finished food products.
Evaluate color stability in both matrixes and write reports summarizing findings.
Improve the formulation and stability properties of natural colors (e.g., light stability, thermal stability) through physical modification of colorants.
Formulate mixtures of colors with natural colors and/or certified colorants.
Provide technical assistance to US and Global internal and external customers/clients and prospects within their area of expertise.
Evaluate and characterize new natural colors not currently approved by the FDA and make recommendations for their potential use.
Evaluate new sources for raw materials in different applications.
Develop test plans and identify applications for raw materials.
Assist Quality Control in developing quality control procedures.
Support sales staff and travel with them to call on clients and prospects.
Develop assay procedures for natural and synthetic colors.
