About The Position

CTG is seeking an Application Modernization Engineer / Specialist for a client engagement in Atlanta, Georgia. The role focuses on advising clients and delivering application modernization solutions, especially for hybrid cloud and container-based applications. The position involves designing and implementing cloud-native architectures, APIs, microservices, containerized environments, and modernization approaches for legacy platforms. The engineer will assess existing applications, evaluate cloud services and architectural trade-offs across multiple providers, and support integration and coexistence between legacy and modernized systems. The role is a 12-month engagement. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience, relevant application modernization and cloud architecture experience, and strong technical, analytical, communication, and client consulting skills. Relevant cloud, software development, or application architecture certifications are a plus.

Requirements

Strong proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, and Spring Boot.
Experience with React.js or Angular for front-end application development.
Proficiency in SQL and relational databases, including Oracle, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
Experience with MongoDB and NoSQL database technologies.
Knowledge of API development, microservices architecture, and cloud-native application design.
Understanding of hybrid cloud environments, containerization, and serverless computing.
Familiarity with cloud platforms, infrastructure components, and services across multiple providers.
Knowledge of application modernization methodologies, legacy system integration, and database conversion.
Understanding of continuous integration, deployment automation, configuration management, and cloud security practices.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and client consulting skills.
At least 2 years of experience implementing API- and microservices-based architectures.
Hands-on experience with at least one of Node.js, Spring Boot, or Spring Cloud.
Experience designing, developing, and deploying cloud-native applications and containerized solutions.
Experience delivering application modernization solutions involving legacy platforms such as mainframe, IBM iSeries, Solaris, or VAX/VMS.
Demonstrated experience with application refactoring, containerization, API development, microservices implementation, programming language conversion, and database modernization.
Experience evaluating legacy application components and identifying appropriate cloud-native services and modernization approaches.
Experience working with multiple cloud providers and advising clients on architecture options, benefits, and trade-offs.
Experience supporting application development and cloud architecture implementation in a consulting or project delivery environment.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group.

Responsibilities

Advise clients on application development methodologies, tools, and modernization strategies, emphasizing hybrid cloud and container-based applications.
Design, develop, and implement cloud-native application architectures, APIs, and microservices.
Collaborate with senior technical resources on application development, modernization, and deployment activities.
Design, build, and maintain containerized hybrid cloud environments, ensuring high availability, access control, network security, and automation.
Lead cloud architecture implementation during project delivery and solution design phases.
Develop modernization solutions for legacy platforms, including mainframe, IBM iSeries, Solaris, and VAX/VMS environments.
Apply continuous modernization strategies, including application refactoring, containerization, API development, microservices creation, programming language conversion, and database migration.
Assess application components and map their functionality to cloud-native services across multiple cloud providers.
Evaluate cloud platform services, technologies, and architectural trade-offs to recommend solutions aligned with client requirements.
Support application coexistence architectures and integration between legacy and modernized systems.
Work with application components and architectural patterns including Systems of Engagement (SOE), Systems of Insight (SOI), Systems of Integration, and Systems of Record (SOR).
