About The Position

Horton, Inc., has an opening for a Application Engineering Co-op at our Corporate Headquarters in Roseville, MN. This is an onsite position with the ability to be a Winter/Summer 2027 or Summer/Fall 2027 Co-Op experience. The Application Engineering Co-op position will perform varied duties of a complex nature. The candidate will support integration of existing products into new applications with general guidance from the Manager and direct guidance from a full-time engineer/mentor. Key skills include design, analysis, DFMEA, test planning, and component/system testing to ensure products achieve performance and reliability targets. The candidate will use testing results and advanced analysis tools to approve product applications and make recommendations where required.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 2 years of school completed with strong academic performance (3.0 GPA or above)
  • Junior or Senior status
  • Demonstrated leadership, strong initiative and decision-making skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter who can work well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively across the organization
  • Selfless, positive, get-it-done attitude
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Motivated, self directed, and the ability to make risk balanced decisions.
  • Modeling and drafting of concepts into designs that can be tested.
  • Conducts computer aided analysis of new concepts with FEA and/or CFD.
  • Tests materials and concepts, working closely with the test lab staff to design tests and document results.
  • Develops test designs to measure the function and quality of products and to test new ideas or modifications of existing products.
  • Provides technical expertise in support of improvements to existing product designs; authorizes product design revisions.
  • Provides engineering support to the process of modification of existing products to meet customer requirements, while retaining product function and quality.
