You’ll implement fast, elegant, and conversion-focused digital experiences across our customer touchpoints, partnering with Product, Brand, and Growth Marketing teams to maintain existing systems and deliver new features that help the business scale.

Requirements

  • 3 years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 1 year of hands-on Shopify development.
  • Strong familiarity with the Shopify ecosystem, including Liquid, Storefront API, and Theme App Extensions. You have a proven ability to build and maintain performant, brand-aligned theme customizations.
  • Proficient in JavaScript and TypeScript, with experience in React and modern front-end tooling. You are comfortable building and deploying Shopify apps using Node.js and Remix (or equivalent frameworks).
  • A solid understanding of REST and GraphQL APIs.
  • You are eager to use AI-powered coding agents (like Cursor or Claude Code) to improve your efficiency and deliver high-quality code.
  • You approach technical challenges methodically, identifying solutions for low-to-mid complexity issues and knowing when to escalate more complex trade-offs to senior leads.
  • You are solution-oriented and don’t wait for every instruction; you identify technical needs within your tasks and partner with your team to translate requirements into working code.
  • You can explain your technical approach to both peers and non-technical partners, ensuring alignment on the customer journey and project goals.
  • You enjoy building fresh, brand-consistent experiences and thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities may evolve.
  • AI Literacy: Proficiency in using LLMs to draft code snippets, debug logic, and summarize technical documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Shopify Markets or international commerce.
  • Experience with e-commerce analytics (GTM, GA4).
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (Vercel, AWS).
  • Experience with Shopify POS extensions.
  • You’re creative and innovative; you love to build great new things that are fresh and unique while staying on brand.
  • You’re agile, and motivated by a fast-paced and ever changing environment.
  • You’re passionate about transforming travel for all (but that’s a given!)

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of internal Shopify apps using Node.js and Remix, assisting with features for promotions, bundling, and checkout customizations under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve bugs within the Shopify storefront and POS integrations, serving as a reliable point of contact for operational issues and escalating high-complexity challenges when necessary.
  • Support Away’s retail team by implementing updates to Shopify POS UI extensions and assisting with the maintenance of hardware integrations.
  • Build and manage standard webhooks and backend event handlers, ensuring reliable data flow between Shopify and third-party platforms like Klaviyo and AfterShip.
  • Follow established best practices for performance, accessibility, and SEO across Shopify surfaces, ensuring our web properties meet technical standards.
  • Help reduce technical debt by assisting with upgrades to developer tooling and keeping our stack aligned with Shopify’s latest platform features.
  • Contribute to engineering documentation and participate in team code reviews, supporting a collaborative environment and a "no-ego" approach to feedback.
  • Leverage AI-powered development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) to accelerate the delivery of well-scoped tasks and contribute to the maintenance of AI-backed features.
  • Partner with Growth, Brand, and Product teams to ship defined features across web properties, ensuring a seamless e-commerce experience.
  • Assist Data Engineering in implementing server-side event tracking via GTM and Amplitude to ensure reliable product analytics and attribution.
  • Work closely with your manager to identify and plan technical solutions.
