About The Position

Raymond West is seeking a skilled Application Engineer to join our Systems teams. This professional technical role involves end-user concepting, technical planning, software/controls expertise, testing, field support, installation, and post-installation support for automated equipment throughout its lifecycle. Responsibilities include managing software and electrical controls for interfaces with customer warehouse management software, and directing the operation of automated storage & retrieval systems (AS/RS), automatic guided vehicles (AGV’s), and Powered Industrial Vehicles (PIT). The role also entails advising on automation applications, managing software license renewals, installing software and automation equipment at customer sites, training end-users, and supporting sales specialists with applications, specifications, demonstrations, and general sales support. This position offers significant learning opportunities in warehouse automation and logistics. This role demands technical proficiency, strong problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills for interacting with suppliers, internal teams, and external customers. Prior experience with materials handling automation and its software interfaces is preferred.

Requirements

  • A working knowledge or the ability to learn these products or skills very quickly would be necessary: Windows Basic System and Network Administration, Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Server Studio Manager, Oracle, SQL Scripts, Microsoft Access, Excel, Word.
  • TeamViewer, Go to Assist, Webex, and other remote support products.

  • Be able to demonstrate proficiency with AutoCAD, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project.
  • Be able to perform systems design & layout to include conveyor systems, AS/RS, shuttle systems, and other various packaging equipment.
  • Possess experience in sales, support engineering, and contract preparation/administration.
  • Be able to scale and completely take off of existing facilities as requested by Management.
  • Be able to perform duties under minimal supervision but respond to rapidly varying requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior knowledge of materials handling automation including how the software interfaces to this equipment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science preferred

Responsibilities

  • Materials Handling Systems Application Knowledge
  • Work with Vendors and RW Sales to help develop estimates when needed.
  • Technical software sales support for Raymond West Systems Account Specialists, including customer visits, integration application specifications, designing AGV routes and rules, supporting setup of laptops for demonstrations, and assisting with Product Order Forms and Software Requirements Documents.
  • Installation/implementation and training of end-user Power Pick Global, Supervisor software, and the Raymond iWarehouse Suite, including scheduling, developing training agendas, train-the-trainer concepts, operator training, and software configurations.
  • Maintain and implement customer software support renewals, including generating quotes, processing purchase orders, creating partner purchase orders, and tracking Power Pick Global population.
  • Understanding and knowledge of various controls architectures, related controls levels, and the functionality of controls domains, inclusive of WMS and WCS integration.
  • Develop storage and automation design concepts based on customer operational requirements and data.
  • Substantial and extensive experience with planning, management, and execution of complex material handling systems.
  • Understanding of the dynamic handling characteristics, constraints and risks associated with the wide range of materials handled within a complex material handling system.
  • Knowledge of the constraints and methods for defining and demonstrating equipment, subsystem, and system performance criteria.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities and impact of project execution when interfacing with General Contractors, Construction Managers or owners.
  • Knowledge and ability to identify and develop the proper team skills required for the successful implementation of the various products and subsystems employed in complex systems inclusive of mechanical, controls, software, and installation.
  • Ability to develop detailed project schedules inclusive of all in-scope engineering, installation, and integration schedule activities as well as explicit and implicate out-of-scope milestones by others (i.e. owners and general contractors) impacting project execution, using MS Project.
  • Ability to develop, define, and execute acceptance test plans inclusive of physical, function, rate and availability testing.
  • Experience with and execution of general processes associated with change control, approvals, and information exchange involving several stake holders, both internal and external, in particular with a large number of subcontractors.
  • Ability to coordinate the execution of activities by internal resources as well as contractor resources and recognize early and proactively issues that require corrective action and impact on timely execution.
  • Ability to cause team and organizational action to mitigate scope, schedule, and cost concerns both internally and with customers.
  • Experience with the coordination of on-site activities involving many (sub) contractors vying for the same space and time windows. Interface with local code requirements including, seismic, fire, and ADA.
