About The Position

The Application Engineer is responsible for developing technically sound and commercially competitive solutions that support the successful delivery of XNRGY's HVAC products which include custom air handlers and data center units. Acting as the technical liaison between sales, customers, engineering, manufacturing, and project management, the application engineer transforms customer requirements into executable designs and production-ready documentation. This role supports the entire project lifecycle—from bid preparation and technical proposal development through submittals, project release, and post-award technical support—while ensuring compliance with customer specifications, company standards, and manufacturing capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 1–3 years of experience in application engineering, mechanical design, HVAC, Data Center, or custom equipment manufacturing.
  • Experience preparing technical proposals, submittals, and engineering documentations.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, air handling units, data center systems, or similar mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to interpret customer specifications, engineering drawings, and construction documents.
  • Experience with CAD software and ERP systems (Epicor experience is an asset).
  • Strong knowledge of Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with custom-engineered products is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review customer specifications, drawings, and project requirements to develop optimal technical solutions.
  • Support the evaluation process by assessing technical feasibility, manufacturing considerations, and project risks.
  • Prepare accurate project proposals, bid documents, and technical documentations.
  • Develop project costing in collaboration with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Coordinate quotations for custom components, freight, electrical systems, and controls.
  • Assist sales representatives during the quotation process by providing technical expertise and product recommendations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, consulting engineers, and sales representatives.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to support business development activities.
  • Design and prepare technical documentations, including dimensional drawings and product layouts.
  • Develop mechanical documentations and coordinate drawing activities with drafting teams.
  • Select appropriate components based on project requirements and applicable standards.
  • Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and ensure technical accuracy.
  • Develop project submittals following contract award.
  • Coordinate the review, approval, and revision of customer submittals.
  • Ensure all engineering documentation is complete, accurate, and ready before production release.
  • Support Sales Order entry by ensuring all required technical information is complete.
  • Finalize Engineering Bills of Materials (EBoMs) and verify electrical and controls documentation.
  • Coordinate project documentation prior to release to manufacturing.
  • Manage engineering changes throughout the project lifecycle, including change orders and revised submittals.
  • Participate in technical reviews and quality checks to ensure project accuracy before production.
  • Support Manufacturing, Service, and Project Management by resolving technical issues and responding to field inquiries.
  • Train sales representatives on XNRGY products, selection tools, and design applications.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of sales tools, engineering templates, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that increase engineering efficiency and documentation quality.
  • Participate in customer factory visits, factory acceptance tests (FAT), and witness testing in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Stay current with industry standards, emerging technologies, and product innovations.
