The Application Engineer manages external interfaces between the transmission and vehicle platform, including packaging and functional requirements, and uses the CE/COE organizations to drive decisions affecting the transmission. The role owns application requirements across programs, variants, and vehicle platforms; coordinates vehicle packaging and clearance work; and aligns vehicle requirements with transmission capabilities and limitations. The engineer owns the Transmission Technical Specification (TTS) and communicates requirements including torque, NVH, fuel economy, tire size, final-drive ratio, and mass. The role defines and tracks vehicle, system, and subsystem functional objectives and coordinates application-specific designs involving transmission components, connections, cooling, PIM/e-motor integration, controls, and calibration. The role also supports vehicle assembly plants, pilot builds, end-of-line testing, VIN marking, and build issues. It leads build-readiness work, prototype hardware procurement, ED&D requests, BRT prototype orders, and logistics for build-related transmissions and parts. Supplier and assembly-plant travel may include Canada and Mexico.
