About The Position

This Sales Application Engineering position is in the Industrial Division, housed at the U.S. Corporate Headquarters in Gastonia, NC. The Sales Application Engineer will be responsible for the correct application/design of Stabilus Linear Actuator (Powerise) into customer products. This is achieved by meeting customer specifications, Stabilus’ internal design considerations, and utilizing basic engineering practices. This role also provides technical assistance to Inside and Outside Sales, as well as distributor partners and customers as required.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering or equivalent is required.
  • 2-8 years related experience recommended.
  • Software Skills: AutoCAD/SolidWorks, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint, SAP.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Deals with all facets of company and customers.
  • Contact with Others: Talks directly with customers, Sales, Engineering, and Production.
  • Resourcefulness and Initiative: A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Mechanical aptitude: Must be able to work with light tools to mount product or build simulation bucks to simulate applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Discipline specialty of Mechatronics, Electromechanical systems, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical engineering is highly preferred but not required.
  • New or recent graduates with exceptionally matching skill sets will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Optimally size or select Stabilus standard products and linear actuators using simulation software, providing this output to customers, distributors, outside sales, and inside sales upon request.
  • Design custom POWERISE products using Stabilus Software, ensuring the design is correct based on Stabilus design criteria, manufacturing capabilities, and best engineering practices. Create drawings with industry-wide used CAD systems.
  • Support ordering prototypes by placing internal orders, supplying drawings, and supporting assembly questions. Responsible for product development until acceptance of prototypes, specification agreement by the customer, and series release for manufacturing.
  • Review customer prints, drawings, or 3D CAD to match Stabilus product offerings. Ensure Stabilus products meet customer specifications or note any deviations. Mark up customer prints and negotiate technical agreements with the customer.
  • Develop mechatronics drive systems for Industrial applications.
  • Provide direct customer contact to solicit information and give technical assistance via phone, fax, letter, email, online meetings, or on-site customer visits.
  • Provide technical drawings to requestors as required (non-released parts).
  • Design and calculate components, assemblies/building groups, and prototypes.
  • Organize and conduct validation testing of components, designs, or product level analysis (DV/PV). Arrange testing according to customer and internal documentation requirements.
  • Support Stabilus Sales, distribution network, and customers with technical questions.
  • Complete Technical Change Notices as required.
  • Inform the Company of any technical developments discovered from competitors or other outside sources.
  • Create a test specification to ensure the design meets application requirements.
  • Recommend/initiate design changes to Stabilus Products in response to competitive advances. Assistance may be required at locations other than Stabilus.
  • Provide Technical Training to Outside & Inside Sales, Distributors, and external and internal Customers as needed.
  • Identify application or product problems, which may require dissecting suspect product or inspecting the customer’s product. Analyze the situation, determine the failure and root cause, and report findings. Recommend corrections/fixes for the problem.
  • Travel to customer locations may be required.
  • May require participation in pilot and production start-ups, and quality investigations.
  • Manning/walking of Trade Shows to gain/give technical knowledge.
