About The Position

Delta Dental of Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana is seeking a motivated undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. The Application Development Intern will work on large-scale enterprise business application platforms and contribute to a next-generation platform featuring Angular browser-based clients, Java REST services, and scalable backend systems built to meet strict security standards.

The internship offers hands-on experience with modern system architecture and technologies, including Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), Event-Driven Architecture (EDA), web frameworks, REST, JSON, Kafka, containerization, RPA, and content management systems. Interns will apply computer science and engineering fundamentals to real-world problems, communicate their work to other teams, and develop the ability to explain technical subjects to business audiences.

Requirements

• Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program.
• Have completed at least one course or equivalent experience programming in Java, Python, C++, or a similar language.
• Be pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Be self-motivated and able to contribute in a team setting.
• Have strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
• Have demonstrated programming experience in at least one mainstream language such as Java, Python, or C++.
• Have some experience or knowledge of modern web application languages and frameworks such as HTML/CSS, Angular, or React.
• Have solid skills in data structures and algorithm design and analysis.
• Have a good understanding of software architecture, object-oriented analysis and design, and commonly used design patterns.
