About The Position

The Application Development AI Developer is an intermediate-level position that helps establish and implement new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The role contributes to application systems analysis and programming, combining AI development with backend engineering, API management, and database performance optimization. The developer builds applications using large language models (LLMs), prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and basic agentic workflows, and implements Model Context Protocol (MCP) connections between AI models, data sources, and tools. The role also develops RESTful APIs and works with Microsoft SQL Server. It includes integration work and L3 support for more than 20 vendor applications in the Tax Reporting, Tax Diligence, and Tax Withholding areas, coordinating deployment and integration with vendors and internal technology and IT partners, primarily through APIs. The position participates in feasibility studies, estimates, IT planning, risk technology, application and model development, and implementation of systems that meet business needs. It oversees development phases from analysis and design through construction, testing, and implementation, and provides user and operational support. The role applies specialist application-development knowledge to complex issues, advises stakeholders, supports security and operating standards, coaches less-experienced analysts, and operates with limited direct supervision. It is expected to exercise judgment and autonomy, assess risk, follow applicable policies and regulations, and escalate and report control issues transparently.

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience integrating enterprise LLMs, such as OpenAI GPT or Anthropic Claude, through APIs using frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex.
  • Understanding of or direct experience implementing Model Context Protocol (MCP) connections between AI models and context providers.
  • 2–5 years of experience in backend API architecture, data validation, and security protocols.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server, relational database design, and query performance tuning.
  • Experience performing application integrations.
  • Experience in systems analysis and software application programming.
  • Experience managing and implementing successful projects.
  • Working knowledge of consulting and project-management techniques or methods.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree, university degree, or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Write, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries, views, and schemas in Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Use autonomous AI software engineering tools, such as Devin, to accelerate development, write tests, and streamline workflows.
  • Perform integration work and L3 support for more than 20 vendor applications supporting Tax Reporting, Tax Diligence, and Tax Withholding.
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal technology and IT partners to deploy and integrate vendor tax applications with Citi applications, primarily through API communication.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, IT planning, risk technology work, application development, and model development.
  • Establish and implement new or revised application systems and programs to meet business or user-area needs.
  • Monitor and control development phases, including analysis, design, construction, testing, and implementation.
  • Provide application user and operational support to business users.
  • Analyze complex application-development problems and evaluate business processes, system processes, and industry standards.
  • Recommend and develop security measures based on post-implementation analysis of business usage.
