About The Position

CURE Auto Insurance is seeking an experienced Appellate Attorney to join their growing team in Southfield, Michigan. This role is a result of the company's expansion into the Michigan market. The attorney will handle appeals assigned by the claims and legal teams, and may also provide counsel to underwriting, SIU, and other departments. There is potential for a leadership position within the legal department as the team grows. The position requires excellent academic credentials, strong advocacy skills, and technological proficiency. Requirements

  • 3+ years of civil litigation experience in handling automobile insurance claims.
  • 2+ years handling appeals of automobile insurance claims.
  • Extensive knowledge of No-fault insurance and insurance coverage.
  • Excellent academic credentials.
  • Outstanding written and oral advocacy skills.
  • Strong software/technological skills including competency in Word, Outlook, and Westlaw.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to independently manage files.
  • Law degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school.
  • Active law license to practice in Michigan and a member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan.
  • Experience working in a paperless electronic environment.
  • Strong automation/technological skills for courtroom presentation.
  • Prompt and regular attendance.
  • Ability to frequently move about the office to coordinate work with others.
  • Ability to frequently communicate with others in-person, on the phone/virtually, and in writing.
  • Ability to read, understand, process and evaluate large amounts of technical information and make related, informed decisions.
  • Must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience handling BI, UM, and auto physical damage coverage matters is also preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience handling automobile insurance claims from inception to conclusion
  • 1 year handling appeals of automobile insurance claims
  • Extensive knowledge of local and state discovery rules, appellate procedures, and applicable substantive law, particularly relating to all types of automobile insurance claims

Responsibilities

  • Handle appeals as assigned by claims and/or the legal team.
  • Counsel and assist underwriting, SIU, and other departments in the company as needed.
  • Draft appellate documents and argue appeals.
  • Direct support staff on clerical and administrative matters related to handling of appeals.
