About The Position

The Appearance Center Manager provides effective leadership to the unit/team, strategically identifying, internalizing, and communicating critical success factors. This role serves as an effective communicator of the unit's/team's vision and goals, expressing ideas clearly and effectively to gain agreement and understanding. The manager oversees organizational responsibilities to achieve unit/team goals, works effectively with the management team to accomplish organizational goals and resolve problems, and skillfully administers, directs, and allocates all organizational resources. They demonstrate personal effectiveness in leading the unit/team towards its goals, model appropriate values, and promote social, ethical, and organizational norms. The manager creates and communicates a "big picture" understanding of the hospital, ensuring the department supports the organization's desired competitive position. They use appropriate interpersonal styles to develop team spirit and cooperation, stay focused on key stakeholders, and support the unit/team's ability to deliver on all valid stakeholder expectations. Additionally, the manager effectively uses financial concepts and tools to analyze situations and make financial decisions that support departmental objectives.

Requirements

  • Previous retail sales management
  • Customer service training
  • Certified Mastectomy Fitter - American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABCOP)

  • Responsible for ensuring personal performance of Professional Practice Ethics, Patient Assessment and Evaluation, Effective Communication/Patient Education, Orthosis/Prosthesis Application and Delivery, Patient Follow up, Proper Patient Preparation/Measurements, Evaluation/Selection of Products/Model/Type.
  • Supports and coaches staff, providing exceptional customer service.
  • Responsible for posting payments, daily reconciling, and daily business management.
  • Monitors budgeted expenditures and keeps the section expenditures within 5% of the annual budget as adjusted for volume changes.
  • Responsible for equipment validation, maintenance, and record keeping.
  • Operates the department, meeting and/or exceeding all regulatory requirements according to the American Board of Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics, and The Joint Commission.
  • Develops an annual QA plan, actively participates in the QA process and assures the completion of quarterly reports.
  • Assures that personnel in the section are adequately trained and follow ethical practices in all aspects of services.
  • Creates, updates, and maintains departmental policy and procedure manuals.
  • Maintains close, collaborative relationships with physicians, nurse managers and other customers/referral sources.
  • Determines elements of the fitting room (e.g., adjustable stool, exam/fitting table, mirror, hard back chair etc.).
  • Determines required equipment, tools and materials.
  • Complies with environmental safety regulations in all practice settings (e.g., work place hazards).
  • Assures quality care by development and maintenance of policies and procedures regarding patients, prescribers, personnel, maintenance of records, etc.
  • Complies with HIPPA regulations.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Assists in training, lectures, and information to staff or other health care professionals on current orthotics and prosthetic information.
  • Participates in a quality assurance system that evaluates patient care.
  • Participates in professional and educational symposiums.
  • Establishes relationship with patient.
  • Records all personal and insurance information about patient.
  • Discusses financial matters for services/devices.
  • Determines patients expectations.
  • Interviews patient and obtains history.
  • Collects and evaluates patient records.
  • Recognizes the pathology of the disease to provide the proper care.
  • Discusses any related medical treatments.
  • Evaluates and assesses patient to determine: Skin condition, Range of motion, Manual dexterity, Posture and gait, Sensation.
  • Assesses prescription.
  • Determines elements of a valid prescription.
  • Verifies validity of prescriber.
  • Verifies information contained on prescription.
  • Determines relation of prescription to presenting problem.
  • Discusses prescription with patient (i.e., explains the patient’s role /responsibility).
  • Contacts prescriber if discussion/revision is necessary.
  • Explains purpose /objective of orthosis/prosthesis.
  • Informs patient and/or caregiver of the various procedures to be performed.
  • Explains advantages and disadvantages.
  • Determines patient’s expectations.
  • Explains patient’s role/responsibilities.
  • Provides initial instructions.
  • Instructs patient and/or caregiver in care of orthosis and prosthesis.
  • Demonstrates proper application, alignment, and removal.
  • Instructs patient and/or caregiver in fitting adjustments such as tightening straps etc.
  • Explains how to recognize potential problems (e.g., pressure points, skin breakdown, numbness, contractures).
  • Explains care and cleaning procedures.
  • Evaluates psychological impact of devices on patient, family and others.
  • Procedures for patient follow-up.
  • Initiates and encourages on-going communication with patient and./or caregiver.
  • Maintains patient’s record.
  • Informs patient and/or caregiver of provisions for continued servicing of device (e.g., adjustments and consultations).
  • Communicates with the patient and/or caregiver verbally and in writing.
  • Conducts inter-professional communications.
  • Finalizes alignment and fits orthosis/prosthesis to patient.
  • Dons orthosis/prosthesis to patient and finalizes alignment, fit, and cosmetic appearance.
  • Demonstrates to patient and/or caregiver donning, doffing, fitting adjustments and care of orthosis and prosthesis.
  • Explains how to recognize potential problems.
  • Has patient or caregiver demonstrate proper application and removal.
  • Has patient or caregiver sign receipts and acknowledgments.
  • Explains follow-up procedures.
  • Evaluates fit and function of orthosis/prosthesis.
  • Performs necessary adjustments.
  • Schedules follow-up visits.
  • Selects techniques for patient fittings (e.g., patient positioning).
  • Identifies anatomical landmarks.
